Two colossal bank holiday films from my youth. On now.
Can 80s sword and sorcery (yes Jason was '63 in the heyday of Harryhausen but was on 80's telly a lot in the S&S boom)) get any better?

Who else has a fondness for these old sword and sandal/sorcery films?

I knew Clash was, didn't know Jason was. After I got sky plus I noticed the channels do it a lot. The Sunday film becomes the Saturday filmbiggrin

And yeah, the three main Sindbad films were all ace. I think Golden Voyage and Eye of the Tiger have been on recently.

I love those films! I can't believe CotT is as old as me - they always remind me of Easter at home, lounging on beanbags, scoffing chocolate and being scared of the blind witches.

Recently I met one of the special effects guys working on the modern remakes biggrin

They're making CotT II, I quite like the new one, but its not a patch on the original.

Jason & The Argonauts is much better than Clash of the Titans.

Even the Harryhausen effects are better, despite the ~20 year gap.

Love films from this era. Must be to do with growing up watching them. Still think some of effects look better than the crap CGI you get in more modern films and as for the Sinbad movies, ooohh yes. Have fond memories as a teenager of watching Jane Seymour and friend, frolicking in a pool of water.

I do. Who'd have thought that? biggrin

Went to see CoftT when it came out in the cinema as a kid. Wonder why more has not been made of Greek mythology in films, is it something to do with that style of fantasy being more popular in Europe and less so in America?

Quite possibly. It's also part of the European culture and is far more gentle than the nearest Yank equivalent. If there is one?
