Wow,

cat amongst the pigeons time

Explaining to some woman why it's inappropriate to take food parcels from a charity whilst powering flat screen TV's and tumble dryers and feeding a large dog and a budgie

"Those kids dad works away from home 300 nights a year to give them those thing they want" (flat screen TV etc)

(Mother just appeared on the One Show sofa - she doesnt work)

This has got to be one for the PH massive to get their teeth into!

She says she would have to get a job she doesnt want. Noone wants to work. No one wants to do the job that they are doing. She needs to get a grip of reality. furious

Absolutely!

Old Currie is right though... it's not tough if you've got a 50" tv screen, microwave and mobile phone!

"Won't work if not happy" and other such nonsense from the want it/will have it on benefits brigade.

Bet her "Debt Advisor" job in January is only part-time to keep most of her benefits and she has to work or lose them with rules that youngest child is 8 or whatever age it is now.

Shocking!

2 guys next to my mums place (around 18 and 20) - work exactly 16 hours a week each - fully able bodied but of course work the convenient 16 hours so they get all the bennefits

How the F is this allowed to carry on

With the woman on the show it just really boiled my piss she had the nerve to accept food from charity when she doesnt work

It seems to be in this country that if you are workshy, ethnic, on the sick, have at least one kid, only parent with a council house you can make more money out of benefits than you can out of actually working full time.

Agreed. If you're fit and able but chose not to work then you should get no benefits whatsover. I can't believe that woman went on national television with that attitude!

Cameron is slowly lowering the youngest child age at which Income Support stops - it was 10 yrs old and it's going down to 5. They'll be plenty who will still play the system by keep having more kids though.

But no way were those shown "starving" - she would be a damn sight thinner for a start!

I have been working since the age of eight. For most of my working life I have worked seven days a week , up to sixteen hours a day.
These people make me sick but on the other hand they must have a miserable life

The ones I feel sorry for are the genuine cases supported by that charity because I bet their donations drop like a stone after people see they support the likes of that

Playing devils advocate though, I do believe there ARE people that are going hungry in this country

I earn a good wage and when paying the gas, electric, council tax, water etc I do find myself wondering how the heck people on average incomes get by

Obviously there ARE genuine cases that just cant get work no matter how hard they try - I had several months out of work this year (though I am a contractor, so its to be expected to a degree )and can can vouch first hand how demoralising it is if you have a work ethic (i.e a complete contrast to the woman on the One Show)

this is the basic problem, they can get what they NEED from the state of charity, allowing them to fritter away more benefits and any disposable income on tumble driers, a massive telly, the biggest dog I've seen all week (it is only tuesday though) they are no doubt propping up Benson and Hedges profits as well.

Meanwhile I work full time and have just had a tax demand for an extra 25% this year, despite being on PAYE, I have had a pay freeze for 2 years and my pension has been sold down the swanny. Still at least that womans kids have got what they want...

Hmmmm

I don't think they do. She had a nicely decorated house, all the mod cons etc so didn't seem in too bad a state. On the other hand she did come across as a work shy cow

It's so f'ing simple (but I concur, political suicide) -

You want benefits?

Sure, no problem -

BUT, if you're able bodied and under 60 you have to carry out community work (clearing rubbish from hedgerows / cleaning graffiti from walls, etc) for 30 hours per week (or 14 hours if you work 16 per week)

A bad example IMO - there are far worse out there.

This debate passed me by so, after seeing this thread, watched the piece on iPlayer.

The word that came to mind whilst watching this was 'sacrifice' - people seem un-willing to make sacrifices.

When times are tough, you make cutbacks and when times are good you splash out (within your means, of course).

This generation have never had it so good - even in a recession.
