Whether he is the greatest is a moot point; however, his music is certainly some of the best known and most played of all living composers:

Star Wars, ET, Saving Private Ryan, Indiana Jones, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, Jurassic Park, etc.

Quite a list!

was going to post as tribute a parody from family guy 'brian does hollywood' with their impression of what a john williams porn soundtrack would be like (hint:awesome). But it doesn't seem to be around.

Ah well, happy birthday John! excellent composer. I'll have to leave with this

Hmm. I'm always amazed how he has made a massive career of using the same few tunes so many times.

I can see where you're coming from.

I do love JW's film score though. They really help make some of the bug films the success they were. My favourite changes all the time but I'm currently liking Jurassic Park!
