Why? What's happening next week? Is it on the Hotel Inspector?

lol yep my father - I refused to be filmed because I did not agree with letting them in in the first place! They approached us with the idea of giving eastbourne some publicity/helping us make a four star hotel (which we never suggested and dont particuarly want - eastbourne's three star hotels thrive and the four/five star hotels struggle - thats just how it is!). But I know hotel inspector and what angle they come in as to have a bit of drama/scandal/confrontation. For example the lady Alex who interviewed my father raised her voice to my father and said Mr Gulzar if you carry on treating customers this way it'll be just you staying in this building! My fathers reply was: "Your family owned a chain of Forte Hotels did they not? How many did you have?" "We had 40 hotels" she replied, "And today how many do you have?" , "2" was the answer. My father then said "so you went from 40 down to 2 and I went from nothing to 5 and in the last 10 years there hasnt been a year that our turnover hasnt increased at least 10% than the last, I think I know what im doing!" she then went red faced and changed the subject - that bit almost definately wont be aired! Anyways will be entertaining to watch nevertheless but im almost certain they will edit it in a bad way! At the end of the day drama/scandal/confrontation/arguements pull in viewers!

Interesting to read
So why did she turn up in the first place then? Normally the hotels on that program are very obviously either owned by eccentrics, or people with no idea what-so-ever. I assume your father is neither, judging by his response to her?
They were scouting for hotels and really wanted to film our Mansion Lions Hotel and visited us 3 times to try and convince us and eventually my father relented as they sold it to him that "it'll be wonderful publicity for your lovely hotel and this lovely town!".

And re Trip Advisor: Its well known among hotelliers especially in Eastbourne that its bulls

Some of the reviews on Trip Advisor can be a little bit odd to say the least. Never been to Eastbourne so cannot comment on the place or the resort however if the Hotel is as bad as people say then surely it wold be out of business by now.
Interesting to watch the programme however for me I don't take too much notice of these kind of programmes. They are for entertainment only & nothing should be read into the so called 'crap' reviews on Trip Advisor.
For example - I go to Majorca at least once a year & I stay in the same hotel. Have done this for for the past 4 years - if it was crap then I wouldn't go back.
Hotel is three star, half board, 5 minutes from the beach, smallish (145 rooms) & is full throughout the year.
Many people go back year after year including one couple who have been for the past 25 years!
Nothing wrong with the hotel - clean, family friendly, good food, same staff, decent bars, good location so it does the job.
One person who went last year gave it a terrible review because chips were served everyday! So what? The food served had a wide mixture of local dishes & they also cater for the fact that some English people insist on chips with everything - which most children do don't they?
Someone else also gave the hotel a bad review because of the number of children - 'running wild' was her description.
The hotel is a Thomson Family hotel so it goes without saying that there will will be children around the poolside & in the games area.....
So I don't take too much notice of some of the crap written on Trip Advisor.
I will watch the programme however i will take most of what is said with a pinch of salt & I doubt that it would put me off staying at the hotel.

Alex visits Eastbourne and the three-star, 110-bedroom Mansion Lions Hotel. The flamboyant owner, Mr Sheikh Abid Gulzar, dreams of turning the hotel into a four-star establishment. Mr Gulzar describes the hotel’s design as 'rich and good looking, just like myself'; however, Alex soon discovers the hotel’s décor and customer service is desperately lacking.
Alex worries that the steady stream of coach tours are being badly served by a diet of unimaginative food and entertainment, and wants the Mansion Lions to drop its four-star pretentions and concentrate upon improving its reviews. But her plan to make the hotel the best three-star in Eastbourne soon suffers a serious setback.
Allowing yourself to be filmed for one of these programmes seems to be a risky decision to take IMO.Alex worries that the steady stream of coach tours are being badly served by a diet of unimaginative food and entertainment, and wants the Mansion Lions to drop its four-star pretentions and concentrate upon improving its reviews.
