Mark & Lard, 'hello Mrs X, is your y coming out to play?
Discussion
Remember how Mark and Lard used to mock singers with creative names by pretending to knock at their door and ask if their kid was coming out to play?
eg 'Knock knock hello Mrs Knownasprince is your Theartistformeely coming out to play? You could probably do that with PH usernames. ot Danny Baker's 'Turmoil was pretty good, visual comedy on the radio, with the same punchline every week. Comedy genius :-0

Been reminiscing re Mark and Lard recently. Loved the afternoon show when at college! Lard's Animal Sanctuary and Fat Harry White were my faves. There's some clips on Youtube and how Fat Harry White was aired on a weekday afternoon is hilarious looking back! eg 'Knock knock hello Mrs Knownasprince is your Theartistformeely coming out to play? It was some of the best radio ever, they could rubbish carp music back then and get away with it.
At the end of some pants tune they were forced to play Radcliffe would say '"Rubbish!"
Lard: Where, what do you mean?"
Radcliffe: "In the bin over there, rubbish!"
I still find myself saying "Is it werf owt?" When trying to value something.

I loved the record collection bits they did, where the needle would skip with amusing consequences...
How they got away with some of the stuff they did I'll never know
I used to skip off work early so I could listen on my way home.
For your enjoyment, Lairds pristine copy of Mull of fkin-tire. How they got away with some of the stuff they did I'll never know

My fave Mark and Lard era was early 90s on Radio 1 from 10pm until midnight. I used to lie in bed and listen until 11pm and then record the second hour on a cassette and listen the next day. Loved it.
First memory of Mark R is "Out on Blue Six" which was a one hour show each week. At 9pm I think.

'Out on Blue Six' was superb, like a blueprint for 6music but more left field.First memory of Mark R is "Out on Blue Six" which was a one hour show each week. At 9pm I think.

Mark R's evening show is a bit 'out there' for me, but the first 10-15 minutes is usually the best.

My wife's name is Victoria, and I'm always referring to her as "my very sexy ladyfriend Victor-eye-ay". It long ago stopped registering why, but this thread made it all come flooding back. Great radio. Great times. I hate being old.
‘Bright Eyes’ from Watership Down like you’ve never heard it before.

“In that condition, yeah”
