The Professionals - Why can't tv be like this anymore?

I am sure there has already been a few threads extolling the virtues of 'The Professionals' but I have to start one because they have just started showing them here is Oz and they are far better than I remembered. The cars obviously are good to have but also the story lines don't treat the viewer like an idiot and the chemistry and acting ability of the 3 leads is fantastic. It could never be made today because multitude bleeding heart interest groups would have a law suit lodged quicker than you could watch an entire episode. It is such a shame that we have allowed society to be dumbed down to the lowest common denominator. We have lost so many clever and satisfying things.

indeed it is, can you think of other programs or other genres that wouldn't get a look in today? although I don't really want to start too broad a discussion.

i think reality tv is when the rot really started to set in.

I've heard a number of people comment that quiz shows are not as challenging as they once were. not as many shows anymore either.
