well we could just be thankful that the US pilots put their lives at risk transporting our troops to rescue a uk national. they deserve a pat on the back as well.we probably don't have any helicopters that could have done it or we might have a couple but they were broken at the time.
do you really need to have a dig at our allies like that?

Good news I guess, but do wonder if riding round Afghanistan on a horse as a westerner is not a touch on the reckless side, despite trying to do good work.

Interesting to hear that they used US helicopters. Despite my usual rantings about the RAF, I'm told the SF support guys are really very good. I wonder why they weren't used on this op?
Maybe they were fully committed elsewhere - there are smash ops on most nights. Maybe there was a political reason for the Americans being involved. All mere conjecture, of course - I am not and never have been one of them. The main thing is that the op went well: the hostages were released, there were no coalition forces casualties and some kidnappers are no more. Good result.

It seems American choppers were used due to the raid being in Northern Afghanistan where no British forces are based and it would make little sense to fly our under resourced and heavily utilised helicopters from Helmand across the entire country when there are allied forces with the correct equipment in the right area!
