Mrs Thatcher - rather different from todays politicians
Discussion
Unlike our MPs these days, with their porn films, duck houses and flipping residences it seems as though Mrs T had some morals when it came to her expense claims:

Also appears to be the only one born with a spine. Appreciate that not all decisions she made were perfect, but at least she was decisive.

She married a rich businessman and thus had no need to line her own pockets. She was also BFFs with Jimmy Savile -

Seriously ?Thatcher might have been a great leader if we were in a similar situation. Although I feel she would be lacking in understanding the global strategies' involved. As it was she was arguably one of the most divisive PMs this country has known.
Still I expect we'll hear plenty more adulatory comments from the faithful.

And that, boys and girls, is surely the defining difference between politicians then and politicians now. Reading the link in the OP's post underlines how things have changed in the last 30 years. dave stew said:

Controversial, but I think I agree. Oli.

We can not presume you are the inverse? 'Faithful' for the other side? In reality you are no different if this is true.Whether you like her or not, when she knew she was right (always!) she never wavered or wobbled in the face of public opinion. She always did "the right thing" and expected others to do the same. The problem is one mans steadfast is anothers stubborn which probably led to her downfall. I think she was naive in the extreme to think the City would regulate itself honestly and we're still suffering from that decision.
