Army base disposals
Discussion
Announced today, at long last army bases surplus to requirement and those in a dilapidated condition are to be sold off for redevelopment. Not only will this raise revenue it will also be useful within the housing construction industry for a kick-start on new projects. What this means in terms of MOD sale price of the land being discounted or not, we will have to wait for more information. Also the terms of sale are unknown, at least to me, imagine housing will include some quantity of social house building on the sites as well as private stock.

what with 70,000 troops and assorted families now spending there (sic) money in the UK rather than in Germany.
Although, strangely enough, the current evidence is that RAF Bases put more money into the local economy than do equivalent sized Army units.tuffer said:

Good news I expect, what with 70,000 troops and assorted families now spending there money in the UK rather than in Germany.
Not really though. Theres only about 40,000 there and if you take into the account of the governments plan to reduce regular Army under A2020 by about 30% and fill with TA (who are already established in the UK anyway), that number is vastly reduced. I'm so glad I'll be out far before that embarassment occurs anyway.
