Another stupid 'first black...' story. Wasn't it enough with Obama and Lewis!! Isn't there more to this person than just him being black??

Also mentioned here:

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/7955282.stm

If a white person takes over the above role when old matey has served his term, do you think the headline will be something like 'first white person to succeed the first black person to...'.

No that would be classed as racist.

I think role models outside sport and entertainment are important.

Do people want to know about the first black person to lick my balls?

Didn't think so.

ETA: very bad choice of words, he's the first blackhead of a FTSE 100 company

The BBC. Because some of them live somewhere inside Jacqui Smith's colon. She lets them claim a second home allowance.

I was actually surprised that he was the first! Can't believe it's taken this long.

I understand the backlash against the media making a big thing out of every "first", but this one seems worth noting.

How is that news?

The history of mankind is going to be interesting, as the 'first black person' does something.

First black man on the moon.

First black man on mars.

Then we'll have the first blind lesbian black woman ftse 100 manager news report too!

Anybody remember the first black businessman and plc director to get onto the Sunday Times Rich List?

No?

His was a FTSE250 company, not a FTSE100 one, but still.

It was nine years ago.

He should be out of prison soon.

Lots of negativity on this thread. Don't most of you think role models are important?

If it's not important for the BBC to report this then why make a thread about it? Are you envious of the man "funkyrobot"?

I do, but I don't think they should be defined by skin colour. I'm white but I still see admirable qualities in Lewis Hamilton, Lennox Lewis, BB King and other black people who have achieved a lot. It seems better to focus on the achievements than the skin colour to me.

Doubly so bearing in mind the above example of the richest black man in Europe who got sent to prison. What then for all those ambitious black kids who set him up as a role model because he is black?

Yes. But does it REALLY matter what colour they are? Did Mr Armstrong get reported as the First White Man on the moon?

Someone is either a good person and a role model or they are not. I don't care if they are black, white, brown, green or orange quite frankly... It may just be me.
