As long as they then leave them there I don't care what they do. It is the changing twice every year that bugs me.

Being someone who is definately not a mornng person and someone who loves the light summer evenings and hates with a passion when its dark at 3:50pm in winter i think this is great and hope it passes.
Of course putting the clocks forward will instantly make all winter evenings warm and dry without a single hint of cloud or rain its feckng wonderful ideaPutting the clocks forward also magically alters the position of the sun and guarantees 12 hours of daylight everyday
Actually the sooner scotland gets a separate time zone from england the better as folk up here in scotland realise that no matter how much you feck about the clocks winter is still dark and stty and as long as we have a 8 hour working day and 6 hours of daylight its physically impossible to have daylight at the start and end of the working day.
So i purpose this 2 hour shift in the clocks be called BMT British Moron Time

- long live the union.
I take it you mean "long live the European Union and it's standardised timezone?"I still find it really odd when travelling that the more westerly parts of Brittany are an hour behind a lot of the UK on teh face of the globe, but an hour ahead on the clock.

I have a feeling that this is the real motive toward any change.I still find it really odd when travelling that the more westerly parts of Brittany are an hour behind a lot of the UK on teh face of the globe, but an hour ahead on the clock.
Personally I am in favour of this, for companies dealing with Europe it will vastly increase communications time, as well as with China and the Far East.
I much prefer lighter evenings, and I am sure it would encourage sports of all sorts.
I do believe a big factor is trying to reduce energy usage, we are staring into an abyss come about 2015, as old coal and nuclear assets are taken off line, and Windy Miller doesn't seem to be able to keep up, despite his vast salary.
Moving the clocks forward does reduce consumption, and more importantly, it should reduce the Peak Demand (which is what really affects the Power systems), as people stagger their tea times/ tv switch ons, etc.

During the winter. The sun doesn't rise up here even in newcastle until gone 9am, so putting forward the clocks 2 hours will mean 11am sunrise!
The proposal is to move things forward 1 hr more than is the current practice, so your sunrise would be 10am.Too many people don't read the small print, or even know that the clocks are already moved forward 1hr relative to GMT in the Summer.
So just now - 'Winter-' = GMT, Summer = GMT+1 hr = British Summer Time.
Proposed - 'Winter' = GMT +1, Summer = GMT+2 hr, or BST+1 hr.
