manufacturing company 0800 - 1630 with 30mins for lunch, then 0800-1300 on friday with no break

first place where the office work same hours as shop floor.

Really wierd, came from working 0800-1700 (but usually staying to 1800-1830) so it's like a holiday camp.

Deserted out of hours too, most senior manager lives miles away so leaves on time... so the rest of the staff do too. needless to say it's reflected throuh the company and the pace is slow!

Boss doesnt tur up to meetings, or is at least always late... so everyone else is too. Not sure I like it.

Right. I had to get up in the morning at ten o'clock at night half an hour before I went to bed, drink a cup of sulphuric acid, work twenty-nine hours a day down mill, and pay mill owner for permission to come to work, and when we got home, our Dad and our mother would kill us and dance about on our graves singing Hallelujah.

Me and the other directors have decided to implement a knock off at 4 on a friday. But only if you stay in the office, have a drink (wine, soft drink, whatever) and a chat. Informal weekly wrap up deal.

They can not attend if they want. But they have to continue to work.

Thats not really the same as finishing early on a Friday.

The whole thing about finishing early on a Friday, is that people do their contracted hours per week, over 4.5 days rather than 5 whole days, its not about working less. so 4 longer days, and 1 short day.

I came back to private from public.

You get people fking around on Facebook for an extra half hour.

That said I'm relaxed. As long as the work is done that's all that matters.

Yes but try telling that to kids these days. They don't know they're born.

I started a new job in manufacturing about 7 months ago. The office shuts at 1.30pm on a Friday and my official hours are 37.5 per week although I almost always work more than this. I really appreciate the early finish on a Friday as my previous job involved around 60 hours a week over 5.5 days.
