wow. it's threads like this that make me wonder why i even look at this forum. unbelievable
Whats unbelievable?

- People supporting someone who is unfit, increases their chances of diabeties, heart-attack, stroke, joint damage and several other complications surrounding being obese with the bill, both fincial and emotional picked up by others for something that is a selfish personal choice?
or
- People correctly stating that being over-weight is not something that should be lorded and applauded?

Oh FFS - Why don't all you perfect men do two things, 1. post a pic of yourselves on Facebook, and also on here, and invite women to make comments about you, and 2. Get a life.
Not the same. Nobody has said she's "ugly", in fact, many have said that she's actually quite pretty. She is, however, fat. And she says she's not. But she is. And she's gone up in a national newspaper about it. If this was a woman of a healthy weight you might have a point. But it's not, so you don't. smile

She knows she is fat.
"If my big belly and fat arms and stretch marks and thick thighs offend you, then that’s okay. I’m not going to hide my body and my being to benefit your delicate sensitivities."
I thought her point was that she doesn't care about bullies who attack her for it.

Just to check whether it's only us men who have this view, I showed the picture to Mrs Pints.
"She's fat and horrible," was her immediate response. "She needs to get to the gym and have an apple.
"Curves aren't sexy when it's just fat. Why the hell do some women think that?"

I had to laugh. hehe

That. Absolutely that.

I'm afraid all I see when I read all these comments is sad little middle aged men fapping off in their bedroom at their mums house.

Utterly pathetic.
Why are you two so angry about people not fancying a different person?

She's going through a lot of effort to avoid a bit of exercise.

Agreeing with BOR? st just got real...

Does it make you all feel better slagging off strangers? Really quite odd behaviour.
Of course, there are plenty of women her size who seem quite happy slagging off slimmer women. Mrs NB is a size 6 or 8, and has been abused by (fat) strangers on the bus for daring to be thin and well dressed.

For some reason healthy women are fair game, it seems.

Yes, but what sort of women do those fat, Middle Aged, middle class guys have?... wink
Mostly, the fairly skinny sort. Thinner than their husbands, anyway.

Absolutely. As my friend has said, it does her (and any other seriously overweight person) no good at all to preted everything is hunkydory. Attitudes need to change, but that is a world away from merely slagging-off or singling-out for abuse anyone who is vaguely large.

Wife and I met one of my parent's neighbours a few years back. She's largish and her husband is large and perpetually red-faced due to over-indulgence. They have two chubby children of course. The first thing she said was, "my God aren't you both so thin!"

An odd reaction, not only because we're both more athletic than anaemic, but also the way she said it - there was no malice or criticism, but it was as if we'd 'won' a not being fat lottery. I think some people genuinely think you can look fit without any effort. rolleyes

As others have said here, I think it's great she likes herself and doesn't get hung up on images in magazines of what people are "supposed" to look like and hopefully we're all happy for her as a result, and frankly more people could do with being like that, myself and many people I know included.

But let's not get that confused with encouraging people by saying or implying that being that size is healthy/natural because it just isn't - just like being a size zero isn't healthy unless you're a pygmy from the jungle. It's a bit like smoking, I don't judge whether I like someone in any way on whether they smoke or not, and if they want to I'll accept it and I'm happy that they enjoy it. But that's a far cry from saying that its fine and people should go ahead and smoke as it's a perfectly okay thing and not damaging to your health.

The only caveat to the being large thing that I can come up with is that there appears to be strong evidence that even if you are overweight to a certain degree, provided you're doing exercise/fitness etc (and presumably eating the right sort of stuff, if just too much) it's actually not a health issue. I've used this (rightly or wrongly) as an excuse not to get wound up about my current weight so long as I'm pretty fit

4 years ago I weighed 17.5 stone and couldn't run 500m.
3 years ago I weighed 13.5 stone and could knock out a half marathon in 1hr 55min, 10km in 50 min and 5km in 24 min
Now I weigh 15.75 stone and can do 10km and 5km in about 110% of the time of my previous best, and I'm back on the way up to half marathon distance again

If the girl we've been talking about also does plenty of exercise, maybe all of us going on about her health etc don't have a leg to stand on. Only problem is, I don't think she does frown

If she was a random girl that someone took a photo of and she was getting ridiculed then I could see why all the feeders/fatty sympathisers were getting so weepy and upset. As it stands, she put a photo on Facebook and announced to the world that she's proud to be overweight. Quite what she was expecting as a reaction I'm not sure but stretch marks on a fat gut tell you all you need to know about what is/isn't healthy and attractive. In my eyes she looks fat, not attractive.
Exactly. There's some irony in declaring that you don't care what people think about your body and then posting said body on the internet like all of the other attention seeking narcissists who only seem to be able to function when random strangers tell them they're hot.

To my eyes she looks fat and attractive. But her mental behaviour is very offputting.

You can just imagining taking her our for dinner. Get to the dessert stage, she's stuffing her pie-hole, whilst any attempts by you to curb her appetite are met with "i'm proud of my fat figure blah blah .. nom nom nom"
