Talk about a massive over reaction!

I reckon all those are safer places than a lot of London, Manchester or Birmingham.

Perhaps 'massive' was the wrong choice of words - however, I lived in Osnabruck back in the early 90's and traveled around that area a fair bit and the (West) Germans we knew with said they were unhappy with the Turkish gangs and associated crime that went along with it. We, the Brits there, never had any issues with the Germans but the Turks would often search for lone Brits to have a pop at. I also recall Immigration Camps back then looking like Stalag 79 to try and deal with the influx.

Also, the only place I've been shot at outside of a warzone was Hanover, by Turks.

I also spent a fair bit just outside of Sonthofen and don't recall much there - seemed to be a North West German issue at the time.

From what I can gather, when many of the British Garrisons were shut or heavily reduced, there was a resurgence of Turks taking over the nightlife which hasn't been liked by the locals.

That said, I was in Berlin a few weeks back and there were zero issues - perhaps things have calmed down now. All I know is my German mates are livid at Merkel yet daren't say anything for fear of being branded racist - It was the same back then.

Just my view and it would be interested to see the modern day take on it from more Germans.

To be fair, Turks are Turks no matter where they choose to stay.

Coming originally from the land of immigration (USA), IMO every new immigrant group experiences the same trials and tribulations. Chinese, Irish, Germans, etc. The refugee situation is the same now here in Germany. There are some bad eggs, there are security concerns given the issues in the ME, but most are decent people just looking to escape a bad situation. They will integrate and things will be fine.

The real danger at home comes from the righties, IMO. AfD are still widely mocked here, but the way some people succumb to irrational fear means that the soil for radicalism is always fertile.

People are not identical.

Some immigrant communities do amazingly well (see Far-east Asians in America) others remain locked in welfare dependency and criminality.

substitute the words Islamist for righties and IS for AfD and you'd be dribbling be all over your keyboard in your efforts to smash out some response to that statement. Just goes to show that people can be as retarded as those righties you rail against.

I visited in 2008 and thought much of it was a bit of a dump, tbh, so I have no desire to return.

Stuttgart seemed much nicer, on reflection.
