Even if he is guilty of the charges, is it acceptable that the UK ship him off to face a life of sodomy and rape, destined to die with AIDS or at the hands of a fellow convict?
I doubt we'd ship someone off to face death in another country, so why are we prepared to do so in this case?

It was his choice to (allegedly) arrange the murder of his wife in S.A, so yes it is acceptable that he should face the courts there.

Perhaps he should have thought it through & committed the crime in a country with nicer prisions?

That is a tough one. But is Jordan that much better than South Africa - I know Dewani is a UK citizen. I suppose choose well the country you want to commit a crime in - check out the prisons 1st, and don't just be swayed by the ease with which it is possible to commit serious crimes.

Apparently the Mail of Sunday have teamed up with Panorama for this latest 'investigation'.

Indeed questions which need to be answered.

One thing I don't understand though IF someone has found out their wife has been murdered how could you be smiling a day after it joking on the phone? Cannot imagine someone in that situation would be able to move on so quickly - unless of course it was the downward spiral of mental health issues.

Have to say, the documentary last night did make the prosecution case look rather flawed. All three of the locals who did plea-bargains can be proved to have lied about certain things, which would have to call into question their whole testimonies. I really don't know what to think as some of the husbands actions prior to the murder and behaviour afterwards does look dodgy. Ultimately, though I thought the comment about him being a perfectionist and control-freak were quite telling and just I can't reconcile how anyone with these traits would plan a hit on his wife in such a matter-of-fact way.

Applying the principal of Occam's razor, it seems to stretch the imagination too far to think that within 20mins of arriving in SA this guy is just going to ask the first taxi driver he meets to sort out a hit on his wife? Although the documentary never proposed an alternative scenario, I was left thinking that maybe the taxi driver just reckoned the couple were monied-up and therefore an easy target for an opportunistic carjack robbery which he then organised via the fixer in the other hotel.

It was one hell of a bungled robbery if attempted robbery gone wrong is the theory, though. Apart from the fact someone was killed seemingly by accident (otherwise why not also kill the husband?) and the fact the baddies were apprehended so readily, as robberies go making off with a couple of hundred quid but leaving behind many tens of thousands of pounds worth of jewellery shows an almost implausible level of amateurism.

If the show was a fair reflection of the Police investigation the SA criminal justice system needs a kick up the arse.

Let's hope the truth wil out.

I don't think there is any doubt that there was collusion between the taxi driver, the fixer and the three robbers. The question really comes down to whether or not they planned it between themselves or if they were indeed hired by the husband to kill his wife. Supposing it was a hit, why on earth do it in the middle of a densely populated township (with lots of potential eye witnesses) when they could have just driven somewhere quiet 5 minutes away to do the deed? The theory that they never actually intended to kill anyone does seem to tally better with the actual events and how they fled the scene without bothering to pick up the jewellery immediately after the gun went off.

my bet:

pistorious not guilty
dewani guilty

this to satisfy local feeling and look as though their legal system is anything other than a joke.

If they keep introducing translators / interpreters of the calibre as is being used in the OP trial, they're going to have their work cut out for them.

Do you think it's as black and white as that?

yes. although my view of things is tainted by living and working in countries where legal systems are flexible enough to allow it.
