I don't think that you have seen his racist comments. They would never be tolerated in the playground.

Good read and a much more balanced viewpoint. Shows the mob mentality and how most involved were just as bad as the lad who has been arrested!!
Yep, arrest them all!

Seriously, what the hell is wrong with some people?

Does he really think this makes him "hard" or gains him any sort of respect?

What an absolute muppet.
Serious inferiority complex going on there.
Well, I grant you I don't own a belt from Primark but I can assure you I don't feel inferior because of it... Oh you meant him didn't you wink

There are a lot of PH'ers who'd better hope that Gordon Brown and Scott Alexander never decide to start taking action over abusive internet posts.

Like I said, people are free to say what they want, the law is free to act on reports of offensive language online.

If you're happy to accept the risk of spouting off about people online fair enough. If not then moderate your language online.

Oh well - that's fair enough then. Just as long as you apologise when realising that it's not going to work out quite how you envisaged...

There is a world of difference between being controversial and outspoken (which absolutely should be encouraged) and continuously posting vile, threatening vitriol. The odious little gisp in question didn't just post one or two comments in the heat of a moment. He was insulting, threating and abusing people many times a minute.
I'm not in anyway defending this poor excuse for a human being, I read all his recent tweets and even had the misfortune of watching his rants on You Tube - If this doesn't make you want to smack him in the mouth i dont know what would.

All i'm saying is this a slippery slope towards online censorship?

Forum Moderators remove and delete posts all the time.

You can be forced by law to remove postings online, ISPs can be forced to block access to sites or take down infringing sites.

Online censorship already exists.

Maybe people need a few lessons in reining themselves in a bit - especially youngsters.

Self control as an art seems to have been lost on a lot of people.
Couldn't agree more.

But then again, look at the role models in the public eye that get away with all sorts because..

He's mentally ill surely?

The way the article is written it looks like police over reaction but when you see that .... some action clearly needs to be taken against the little scumbag.

Don't forget the third side of the triangle - the media, it works the same for them too: Big sensational headline on page 1, story later shown to be complete cobblers, apology printed on page 27 in smallest possible font.

He did to the people who were giving him the same level of abuse, setting up trends like #99thingsbetterthanriley and calling for him to be burnt alive. But its ok to do that apparently.

Where does one draw the line, though? Clearly, if you are hurling an incessant diatribe of abuse at someone (or multiple people) in the street, you would get your collar felt for a breach of the peace / inciting racial hatred / drunk & disorderly etc, etc. Why should it be any different online?

There is censorship all around us, so perhaps there is a real need for online censorship. Certain members of the community seem to be unable to express themselves without the need to repeatedly insult people.

I would be first in line to smack this little cretin in the mouth!

Just because action hasn't taken place against those rallying against the little goit doesn't mean it's ok or that action won't be taken, especially if people are making death threats in return.
