The truth about immigration

Attempt to arrive in the UK without a visa and the following are likely to happen:
1. Airline refuse to allow you to board as they face a fine for bringing you to the UK (carriers liability, due to go up to £7,000 per PAX)
2. You will be stopped at control
3. You will be interviewed at length
4. The granting of Leave to Enter is discretionary and only authorised at a management level and only then for discretionary purposes, such as a seriously ill relative/funeral - and these will be checked before admittance is granted
5. Likely that the passport will be held onto if leave to enter is refused, but temporary admission granted (few days pending confirmation of checks) and if they fail to return or the checks don't pan out, the file will be passed to the enforcement teams and they will spool up an early morning visit to check the strength of the door.

What do you define as 'British Identity'? Do you understand the history of this country?
I totally agree with any analysis that worries over the available space and resources in this country to deal with a large influx of people without a corresponding outgoing. However to claim that an influx is bad on the grounds that the people coming in aren't British seems a bit glib.

What a load of twaddle. Our fighting spirit (us not the US) came from an intense loyalty to our great little island nation which gave a sense of belonging to something great. We used to lead the world you know, despite the fact leftist apologists would rather British achievements were expunged from history. Filling our country with the dross of the third world who ACTIVELY DESPISE our culture and heritage (they follow the religion of peace!) is the ruination of our nation...they are NOT British! Being British is not about which plot of land you landed on when you fell out of your mother.
It really grates me about this politicians vanity project ('free movement of people and labour' is a nice tag line) is when I go back to my home town and speak to people I know who used to be in the building trade. These guys' families have been hit so hard by their being priced out of the market. These families are great people but because of the changes to the local economy, racism and xenophobia is gaining a foothold in what would otherwise be a healthy liberal environment. And you can't blame any Polish father or Romanian mother coming to the UK, because if they know they'll get 4 times the wage to raise their children than they would in their home state why wouldn't they give it a shot in Britain?

You are British! It's no slight on the idea of "Britishness". Its not JUST about where your origins lie it is about your attitude to the country that provides you with a home and how much you see yourself as "one of us". Demanding a ban on alcohol or women in short skirts whilst pushing for Sharia Law is not a British thing to do, do you see the difference?

Yet this is exactly what Salmond will do if we vote Yes, yet many do not realise this. You, however, seem to welcome it...
Most immigrants prefer to go home after a few years....we tend to get a cycle of fresh blood all the time. I have been there on a regular basis for last 7 years. It has got steadily worst. Its now a nightmare at rush hour. Some bits of the beltway have been improved but still some major problems where it reverts to 2 lanes only. Once you get outside the beltway then the traffic is of cause less but that true in the UK. I would say since they have opens the Motorway from Bucharest to Constanta that journey has gone from nightmare to easy.HonestIago said:

There was a time in the 1940's, when right wing policies were necessary - desirable even. But these times are gone. Any forward thinking person has to put aside any petty prejudices they may personally feel for the better of the country as a whole. Don't like people of a different skin colour/different accent to you? f

I used to think you had some intellingence....but with that last remark- any credibility went out of the window. We in Britain over the last 2000 or so years have a populace made up from inhabitants from all over Europe, from the Romans onwards.
