If someone wears a particular item of clothing and someone else says they look like a letter box, is that racist?
This question is open to all to answer.
Is that particular item of clothing specified by a religion? Might that religion also be followed by people of many races. You’re doing well mixing up hate crimes here. Do you think Islam is a race? This question is open to all to answer.
Are there any other entirely unrelated things you’d like to drag in to further confirm your ignorance?
A letterbox isn't a race either.

The person i quoted said ketchup isn't a race, so it's fine to call people ketchup.

I just asked a random person if gammon is a race and they said no so it’s fine to call people that. A letterbox isn't a race either.
Is that how this works?
I'll repeat it:
The person I quoted/justifying name-calling said it's okay to call people ketchup because it's not a race.
Is letterbox a race?

It’s “male entitlement” over women, says a chairty. You might be forgiven for thinking that it was, in fact, just f*ked up extreme behaviour by an extreme scumbag of the vilest sort.
“ActionAid UK said that acid attacks are in response to ‘harmful patriarchal norms.”
The same article quotes the follwing figures:
“Last year, Acid Survivors Trust International (ASTI), a UK-based charity, found that the number of chemical attacks had risen dramatically. Their Freedom of Information request showed that attacks increased by 69% in 2022 when compared to the year before, with a total of 710 attacks.
Of that figure, 339 victims were women, and 317 were men; in 48 cases, the gender of the victims was unknown.”
So very nearly half of all recorded victims were men; I’m unsure how that demonstrates “male entitlement over women” or “patriarchal norms” as being the root cause. Not entirely sure this charity have hit the mark on this occasion, seems unhelpful and inaccurate to me. No figures are given regarding the assailants.
The reported geography is interesting, though:
“The highest number of incidents occurred in Northumbria, with 183 attacks that year, followed by London and Merseyside.”

Honestly...what have we become?
Some poor people have been attacked, including kids with acid...and some choose to argue like silly little primary school kids over name calling?
Pathetic, just pathetic beyond belief. Stop it, you utter bell ends!
Do not downplay racist language as merely "name calling". You wouldn't if it was targeted at any other groups. Some poor people have been attacked, including kids with acid...and some choose to argue like silly little primary school kids over name calling?

FWIW I find the use of the phrase (likewise snowflake) pretty much usually an efficient way of blanking out the trolls and thick headed. But it’s a pretty ropey tangent in this thread to be majoring on it.
Anyways. As has been noted I suspect the assaulter has pretty much screwed himself with the injuries he’s sustained and will be shortly detained. As was noted though by someone else it’s pretty horrible to consider what the victims have suffered oh he’s walked away with that scarring. News reporting ‘life changing’ injuries…

Sadly, my first thought was “if that’s what he’s done to himself what must his victims look like?” https://news.sky.com/story/clapham-chemical-attack...

You just literally said it refers to the colour of their cheeks, aka skin.
To say that and claim it's not racist isn't comedy, it's actually stupidity.
Thank you for confirming it's racism.
Jesus fking Christ. To say that and claim it's not racist isn't comedy, it's actually stupidity.
Thank you for confirming it's racism.
How can a white man calling another white man a gammon be racist. If someone blushes a lot and I call them ‘ketchup’ is that also racism.
Gammon is not a race. This isn’t hard unless you’re very very slow.
So, is letterbox a race?

Are you ok?So, is letterbox a race?
Letterbox is not a race. Nor is gammon. Nor is ketchup. If you have a point would you like to arrive at it?
I’ll ask again. Are you ok? Are you stroking out?

Doesn't matter if it refers to whites only. It's not racist because it's largely whites using it to refer to other whites. It's no more racist than callling an angry person a red faced loon, which equally doesn't work so well with non whites.
Nor is it any more racist than a black person calling another black person the n word.
I think there must be a correlation between snowflakery and an inability to grasp things llke context, meaning and intent.
Yep. Not hard to grasp for most. Nor is it any more racist than a black person calling another black person the n word.
I think there must be a correlation between snowflakery and an inability to grasp things llke context, meaning and intent.
Now, if you are white, and calling another person whom you know is white a gammon, then no, that is not racist. Ignorant, but not racist.

Let me explain for everyone else what you just did:
The guy thought he was smart saying gammon isn't a race so its fine to say it. I used the Boris Johnson incident (which many claim was racist) as an analogy. He then (eventually) realised where I was going, pretended to be confused, then backtracked, then agreed and pretended he never disagreed.
Conclusion:
Just because gammon isn't a race doesn't mean it can't be a racist term.

Oh I knew you were using the Johnson line which is why I asked you if Islam was a race (which you handily avoided because in realising it’s not you were already dead in the water). Let me explain for everyone else what you just did:

Here’s why. Islam is a religion and not a race. Any race can be Islamic. It might be a hate crime based on religious intolerance but not race unless you’re able to show the race was the reason for the insult. Johnson’s comments were Islamophobic because they were aimed at the religious attire and not the race of the women wearing them.
So whilst this is very far from the gotcha you seem to think all
you’ve done is confirm that you’re unable to maintain a train of thought, as well as being unable to distinguish between racist and religious hate speech.
Now once you’ve pulled your pants up don’t be too hard on yourself.

Unfortunately there are some on here with an agenda and a pretty sinister one at that. They will seize on opportunities like this to push their agenda, hoping that such an atrocious act will be enough to recruit a few more to their cause and inject a bit more hate.
