BBC news using footage of Ralf to cover the news, good job.

Hope he pulls through, never liked him but doesn't deserve to go like that.

Echoes of Natasha Richardson's Accident here. She hit her head and was lucid enough to refuse treatment. She fell into a coma a few hours later and died two days after the accident. The lessons learnt have been applied here. Schumacher was wearing a Helmet and the Medical Team obviously kept him under observation so when the injury became apparent they could move quickly. Lets hope that saves him. Sad for his Son. He was the one with him when they were skiing "off piste". Last thing your kids need is seeing you that ill.
I went through something similar with my Mother 2 years ago, truly horrible.

My thoughts are with his family and of course hoping he makes a full recovery, but from the sketchy details it doesn't sound good.

Well I'm glad I came to this thread too late to see those posts, I can't even imagine what they were in a time like this.

Neuro Intensive Care.
You never want to go there.

He's a fighter.
He'll always have that in his armoury.

Be positive.

I agree about deleting the posts but in circumstances like this they should be named and shamed and then perma banned.
How much of a complete and utter do you have to be to think it is ok on a thread of this nature?

I've been following the MS threads today and haven't yet posted, primarily because I wasn't his biggest fan and didn't want to sound insincere. But I'm going to bed now and really hope I don't wake to this story having taken a turn for the worse.

Get well, Michael. Your family needs you.

He's a very fit guy and he's in the right place, sounds like response time was good too. All we can do is wait and hope.

I concur - he's got that determination which speaks volumes. My thoughts and prayers are with him and his family right now.

BBC news just reported that Schumacher was in a coma when he arrived at the hospital, which (if true) would be a lot worse than being put into an induced coma.
5Live just said induced coma - sincerely hope that's the case. Fingers crossed for the guy.
Some confusion on this, sky were saying it wasn't induced but the ex F1 doctor was somewhat confusingly stating that it was in his tweets (linked above).

Hoping for positive news in the morning.
Dr Gary hartstein on Twitter has been extremely informative.
I'd like to think if anyone has the ability to come back from this type of trauma it's Michael. He's a fighter and I hope he wins his 92nd victory.

I'm assuming Michael was anesthetised & intubated for the transfer to Grenoble. Heli is too small to do much, so this usually done preflight.

Hospital statement.

"Mr Schumacher was admitted to the University Hospital of Grenoble at 12:40 [11:40 GMT], following a skiing accident which occurred in Meribel in the late morning," the statement said.

"He suffered a severe head injury with coma on arrival, which required immediate neurosurgical intervention. He remains in a critical situation."

The hospital statement was signed by the facility's neurosurgeon, the professor in charge of its anaesthesia/revival unit, and the hospital's deputy director, reports said.-
