I have a feeling this may well come around to bite us on the arse.

But at least Cameron will look like a big tough politician rubbing shoulders with Obama, Putin and co. now.

I don't have faith in any politicians, wasn't it Cameron who said we didn't need a Maritime Patrol aircraft as Hercules and Merlin Helicopters and a Frigate could do the same job. 5 year later, having Russian Subs lurking largely undetected In our waters we are now putting in an order for something (to be delivered in 5 years time) that we should have had 5 years ago!

I really don't have any faith that they will sort this out by bombing, and I don't have any faith that our armed response teams will be available in any numbers to prevent a massacre on the Paris scale.

The only thing we can hope is that our security services, the silent heroes of this country are 100% successful in preventing anything happening here.

So is it official? ARE WE AS A COUNTRY AT WAR?...................

....Because IF we are, surely this is now the time to round up and intern all IS sympathizers and radicals within this country. Just like they did in WW II?

Make sense? scratchchin

It wont work, and never will. You cannot bomb an ideology, only give the people brainwashed by it the thirst for vengeance.

We need to stop the weapons and money supply, companies and governments working with IS should be sanctioned into submission and those responsible sent to the Hague.

If London doesn't get bombed next year I'll be shocked.

I wouldn't be surprised, or if there are similar attacks at other areas where people go, outdoor events, shopping centres, London may have a rapid response to these situations but what about outside of the city?

I really don't think politicians live in the real world.

Even so, a rapid response can only do so much against the sorts of attack we saw in Paris.

I'll be surprised if it doesn't happen this year.

Still, only a couple more weeks schlepping in.

I'm sure all jihadists who were going to commit atrocities on these shores have today flushed their bombs down the loo and left the UK.
Well 3 were arrested this morning in Luton.

Well, the deal is done.

But what most folk seem to have missed is that our contribution isn't really to engage with "bombers" as such, so much as "snipers", and UK have particular skills and capabilities in that department.

Yes, they're snipers that cruise around at 600mph, and can reach out and touch an individual from dozens of miles away, but the net effect is that as of this evening the ISIS leadership in Syria know that they have a significantly higher chance of being personally evaporated, without warning, from a clear blue sky, than they did yesterday.

To my mind, that is a good thing.

BBC says only 2 extra Tornados being sent and 6 Typhoons with no Brimstone capacity. Given they've spent the last week trying to talk up Brimstone as a miracle weapon no one else has ( I believe Saudi has plenty ? ) and how it's so needed, I can't help wonder if this isn't like John Terry putting on his Chelsea kit at the Champions League just to say he was there for historical purposes.

Yes, you've gotta love our ever-helpful media for telling every Tom, Dick and Mohammed that.

Don't think there was ever going to be an element of surprise the way this has played out in the commons and the press, that is when aircraft leave, where to though?

Sort of obvious if a yes vote and they would be going very soon after I thought.

I'm still not sure how we will know if bombing has 'worked' or not for any specific objectives. More generally, I would have thought if bombing worked Iraq would be the most peaceful country on earth by now.

Ten years down the line we may get all the memoirs. That is to say what was known, what was assumed etc. I think mr C will be after justifying so expect to be told what they have done pretty soon. How they know though, maybe they cannot say yet.

I expect there is a lot they cannot tell us. I hope there is a lot they cannot tell us and it is not a folly.

Or maybe he'll be a Middle East Peace Envoy, after dinner speaker and special advisor to various big companies. I think there's a guy retiring from that line of work soon...
