Polls can be misleading. Just before the 2010 Election, shortly after the televised debates, the Liberal Democrats were ahead of both the Conservatives and Labour. This was not reflected in the election results.
Mainly because of the if you don't vote tie colour you will get tie colour brigadeIt would be great to see how the UK voting would look if we could magically remove those votes

Why do you think I'm on here besides that in the background. Also bit of cooking, bit of cleaning and general housework. Domesticated aren't I?

Drives me nuts, the shouty lady from the Lib Dems wont let Patrick get a word in edgeways, same as the Farage/Clegg debate.BBC Sunday Politics EU debate, not watched it yet..
Attacking UKIP again seems to be their only action, shows how weak the Lib.Lab.Cons really are.
Also just saying the EU "create jobs" is fantasy, where is this magic wand?

Nigel has just given a good interview on R4.
Justin Webb started out gleefully thinking that he had caught Nigel fiddling his expenses.
It took Nigel just one sentence to make Webb look like an ill informed bigot.
Apparently, the Times has run a story claiming that Nige has claimed expenses that he isn't entitled to. Poor old Webb obviously believed every single word.
The facts are that every single MEP is paid a fixed monthly allowence. The MEPs don't fill out any claim or give any justification. The Times and the BBC think that it is disgraceful that one MEP doesn't refuse to accept this payment.

Irrespective of rules breaking or otherwise, does it not seem strange that Farage is happy to take his full allotment of expenses, without so much as keeping a detailed record of where it's going, when his party seemingly stands for the criticism of EU spending and influence.
People question the influence of outside paymasters, such as big business to the Conservatives or the unions to Labour. Yet does nobody find it a conflict of interest that UKIP finances are so reliant on the EU, despite their supposed position on wanting its abolition?

It's not expenses. It's an allowance. If I get a car allowance for work as part of my package why would I turn it down?People question the influence of outside paymasters, such as big business to the Conservatives or the unions to Labour. Just because you are offered an allowance to cover these things doesn't make it mandatory to take it if it is not going to be legitimately spent on the specific items for which it is intended.Justin Webb started out gleefully thinking that he had caught Nigel fiddling his expenses.

How often have we heard outrage in this thread about politicians (of all colours) not leading by example?
Do as I say, not as I do?

It's money given out for a particular purpose. Whether you call it an allowance or an expense, it doesn't change the purpose. It is not intended as salary or a perk.If you were anti-car and pro cycling, would you take the car allowance and spend it on something else instead whilst continuing to use your old bike?

Do MEP's pay tax on their allowances?

If Nigel was the only one taking the allowance then you may have a point - as every MEP cheerfully takes bundles of EU tax payers money then what is the point you are making? If Nige gets his way he will no longer get this allowance - how many other MEPs are looking to stop this gravy train? If you were anti-car and pro cycling, would you take the car allowance and spend it on something else instead whilst continuing to use your old bike?
