Brilliant idea. It's about time she had a replacement for Britannia.

Are we not building two aircraft carriers ? And that the consensus is generally agreed we do not need/or can afford one/either/both.........? We certainly have not got any in service aircraft that can use it.

So, here you are Mrs Majesty, a gift from your subjects to celebrate this momentus occasion. One is even already to be called HMS Queen Elizabeth.

Perfect. Its home port could even be Stanley to help keep our South American friends on the right side when its not on specific Royal duties.........
That would be pretty bloody cool. Probably slightly more expensive than the yacht though. Some other talking head on the TV said they can fund the new royal yacht just with public 'donations' and that they already have £10 million promised from a Canadian business consortium.

One completely unrelated question, can Canadians get knighthoods/other titles?

Yes, but nothing significant.

Probably something to do with the fact Canada are very pro-Monarchy.

Wasn't the plan to use this for private hire when not in use. So would be profitable?
The last Britannia was extensively used to promote Btitain's business interests abroad. It generated huge investment for the UK.

Compared to all the rubbish we spend money on this sounds like £60m well spent.

That is a very good point. It was a brilliant "fly the flag" tool for UK PLC.

The thieving old bag should buy her own yacht with some of the money she's already stolen from us.
I think you will find that she is 'sealing' back the money from the assets the government 'stole' or were given by her forbears. Not that I would expect someone with such an eloquently expressed view to actually have any understanding of the origin or history of the Nation's wealth.

So the taxpayer won't be footing the bill, but they are still investigating the idea.

This isn't even the square root of a story.

Does she even want a yacht?

I mean for a lady who is worth several billion pounds, had she wanted one she would have bought herself one by now.

HRH already has a good number of "yachts" tied up alongside in Gosport, she can have her choice from T23s, T42s or even Ark Royal which would be perfect, all that deck space for visiting dignatories to land on and loads of space inside for entertaining. Enough cabins aft for the staff, knock through a few up the front for her, perfect! only needs a lick of paint and the stokers mess bleaching...
