And the second option of buying your own panels, based on the FITs payments?
Would you really trust successive gubbermints to continue paying out ten times the value of the power generated for the next 25 years? Really? I know the generators are the people paying it, but I'd be amazed if they're still forking out in 2035.
It's not ten times. The government has already been spanked once by the courts for trying to end the current rates early.Would you really trust successive gubbermints to continue paying out ten times the value of the power generated for the next 25 years? The previous 40-odd pence was obviously unsustainable, hence the halving of the payments for new installs, but an awful lot of kwh were installed at that previously high and supposedly guaranteed rate.

25 years, according to the paperwork, which has a 25 year guarantee stapled to it, apparently.
Something funny?
The funny thing is why people in a country that is renowned for such crappy weather and crap summers are putting a device that requires sunshine on their roofs! If it's difficult to make the case for solar here in Florida, how the fudge does someone in Shorpe justify it?Something funny?

Solar panels don't need sunny days, just sunlight, apparently. My friend installs Solar panels for a living (not for one of these type of companies), and I wasn't sure what the catch was so I asked.
He replied that basically you now have a 3rd party invested in your house and loads of mortgage companies will not deal with you. Its a right pain, and will cause no end of issues when attemping to move/sell up. However if you are going to stay put and own the house etc, its not too bad.

IMO, the panels will pack up after about ten years, the 25 year guarantee will be about as useful as the "lifetime" one you get on a Harveys sofa, and if enough people get these panels (which, judging by my local area, many are jumping on the bandwagon), the government or power companies will put an end to any subsidies.
If you were going to the trouble of putting up panels, I would have thought that a solar hot water system would be a better investment.
You seriously have no idea what your talking about If you were going to the trouble of putting up panels, I would have thought that a solar hot water system would be a better investment.
