moneysupermarket.com may struggle to do that!
This, I don't care what they say, they are now going to use the good reputation of the MSE to try and get themselves a bigger market share, screw site members over and will no doubt sell off the sites e-mail address data base to anyone who offers them a few quid for it, ML will eventually fall out with Moneysupermarket.com and leave his new roll, and will no doubt start up a new website (money saving genius . com).

I just spent 5 minutes getting this guy confused with Michael Lewis who wrote Liars Poker and The Big Short.

Apart from the often over looked fact that he was telling everyone to put there money into icelandic banks.... way after it was seen that they were failing. yes, councils, put your money here, earn more interest - in unprotected accounts.... dont worry its not even your money, what could go wrong.

Nice bloke though, good on him for making a fortune when the world lost the plot on finances.
He always claimed he was a journalist and not a financial advisor - there is a fine line it seems.

it says in the article that 59% of MSE current turnover comes from referal fees form Moneysupermarket. they are only giving him about 4 years worth of revenue as cash the rest are shares and some rather vague future potential cash and shares payment. Seems a pretty good way of stopping paying all those referal fees! I would like to think that is the reason anyway.. but as you say there is probably a lot more to it!

Well I think with £87m he's certainly a money saving expert. And about to become a father.

He's on R2 at the moment.

Fair play to him, he's just gone through the amount he's getting and what he's going to do with it. I like him.*

Isn't he the guy who expertly encouraged us to put money in the Icelandic banks?

Granted there are some really useful tips & tricks on MSE, but it's foundation is in (what should be) financial common sense :- shopping around, don't buy from the doorstep salesman etc etc. £87mill is an impressive haul for selling common sense thumbup
Good on that man!

To be fair, a lot of respected Financial Advisers (including my own) were recommending Icelandic banks for their high interest rates.

He always made clear that his advice was just that, and that you should always do your own research.

He should squander the lot in a month like Monty Brewster.

No one would expect that.

Not sure what I’m most surprised about: the £87m or him being married to a woman. Well done, anyway.
Absolutely me too, not sure what gave me that impression previously. perhaps the beard is on the wrong person in that pic?

A bit of back-of-an-envelope mathematics says Martin Lewis is worth about 0.7 of a percentage point of Mark Zuckerberg's $19 billion with his £87 million.

It seems I am in the minority in not liking the guy?

I find his delivery awful and SHOUTY.

Pretty much everything he SHOUTS about is fairly basic common sense but I cringe at some of what he suggests we all do.... I know there are differnt motivators and bench marks but some of his 'advice' is bks as it is hardly worth doing. SOme of the deals he raves about are available freely via google and common sense.

Having said that I recently bought someone lunch in Chez Gerrard and forgot I had a half price voucher on my bl00dy desktop! Doh... shows how valid my opinions on this chap are smile

ANd he is a journo that is great at self marketing; begrudgingly he does get some respect as he has made a bit more than most beer
