I agree. If he had been offered a knighthood, or a peerage, I bet that he would have accepted.
Need one mention Lord (I will never accept a peerage) Prescott?
Hypocritical socialists. Detestable creatures.

I saw Prescott on Question Time a (long) while back and he said that he never actually said he wouldn't accept a peerage - he made a good case and of course those comments are attributed to the press and are probably not reliable.Need one mention Lord (I will never accept a peerage) Prescott?

I'm from a country that was subjucated by your country.
However, I am lucky enough to be(relatively) free of chips on my shoulder.
You don't know how lucky you are to have such a wonderful Queen.

Ireland wasn't especially subjugated by Britain - the poor people of all of the British Isles were subjugated by the ruling classes of the British Isles - as was the way of things for centuries. However, I am lucky enough to be(relatively) free of chips on my shoulder.

I'm all for honours - but far too many are dished out to undeserving individuals. They should be far more meanly distributed.

What a pathetic post. You're brain has been addled by hatred. You loathe him so much that you look for excuses to attack the enemy even when they're right! Pitiful really, quite pitiful.Need one mention Lord (I will never accept a peerage) Prescott?

You haven't got one iota of evidence to suggest Livingstone would have accepted a knighthood. Other than to go on about Prescott. But Prescott is a different person, you fool!!!!

Quite. I just couldn't believe Hector Sants of the FSA has been knighted. He's a horrible little puffed up toad of a man who presided over a regulatory regime which allowed the PPI scandal, swaps scandal, Northern Rock and other bank failures, he let mortgage lending run out of control leading to the credit crunch and god knows what else. In any decently run country he'd have been out on his arse years ago, but here in the UK he pays himself and his FSA mates a fat bonus, clears off to Barclays on £3m a year and now gets a gong. Like someone above says, we need to take a long hard look at ourselves.

Does he turn down all the money he is offered for work, or does he take that?
Not quite so equal is he
He did a job and was paid the going rate, so I'm not sure that I see your problem with that or how it's relevant to turning down an honour. Unless you think that everyone should be paid the same, regardless of what they do?Not quite so equal is he

I don't like Hector Sants very much but the above is a completely unfair demolition of a reasonable decent man.In any decently run country he'd have been out on his arse years ago, but here in the UK he pays himself and his FSA mates a fat bonus, clears off to Barclays on £3m a year and now gets a gong. 1. He took over FSA in July 07, in reality far too late to implement any changes that could have stopped the crisis a year later. And he would have struggled, because he has to follow government policy. He can't make up new bank regulation, just implement the lack of regulation the govt decided upon.
2. He took a drop in pay to do the job, in a past life he was a highly successful Credit Suisse banker.
3. As for being "out on his arse", he wishes. He quit in 2010 because he didn't want to do the job and had an offer to earn 3 times as much doing something he wanted to do, but the chancellor begged him to stay on and oversee the transfer of FSA powers to the BoE.

2. So what?
3. The FSA under him for 5 years was so successful it is being wound up as its deemed not fit for purpose.
Why do you think somebody who did nothing to even look into the miselling of PPI deserves a knighthood?
It looks to me as the liberal sprinkling of honours to our 'Olympic Stars' is a clever method of shrouding the usual hand-outs of titles to the undeserving, Mrs Blair and Mr Sants being notable examples. I suspect closer scrutiny of the full list would revel a healthy bag of questionable names that are also linked to the financial and political sectors too.
As for Ken Livigstone. The London Olympics would not have happened without his support. So if they are dishing out honours to all and sundry involved with the games he is as much 'deserving' as any of the other administrators on the list. However to his credit he stood by his stated principles and rejected the award.
