It does look better in the bigger picture. But that's like saying North Korea is better than Nigeria as a place to live.

Was about to comment on FB and then noticed it's been done by the father of a close friend of a friend. She has heaped praise on it so for the sake of keeping group peace I'll stay out of it wink

Must say it doesn't appear terribly flattering, but then many of those of The Queen are a bit suspect.

Im sure Prince William is over the moon to know his wife will still be stunning in 20 years time.

Well he should stick to painting Big Ben then, given his poor effort with Kate.

I think it makes her look a lot older than she is.

I think you might just be hehe

Truly awful work. No young woman (or husband for that matter) in their right mind would be happy with that. Surely she got a preview of it before it was revealed?

errr... not very flattering is it? I think she looks far better looking in real-life.

'kin 'ell, that's a portrait she'll be proud to hang in the cupboard under the stairs.

Artist missed a trick, such high quality work should have painted on velvet...

That is a little bizarre. I don't claim to know art but it doesn't actually look like a bad portrait, just of someone completely different to who it's supposed to be.

I think it looks allright to be honest. it is a painting after all - not a photograph.

Phil is unavailable; last seen heading for the khazi, struggling to carry the original portrait.

You're the 2nd person to have said something like that, and I think you're missing the point.

A portrait is quite often an 'interpretation'. The question most people are asking is not "why isn't it photo realistic" but rather, "why is it such an unflattering interpretation".

He's managed to make a very pretty girl look older, fatter and plainer.

My thoughts exactly.

She has a killer smile too and yet in this portrait she looks more like a disappointed horse.
