So you're happy with a microwaved steak as long as its cheap. Have you no taste buds?

I'll tolerate cheap food being prepared hygenically if it provides me with the occasional cheap meal.

If I want a good meal I generally won't be going to a chain pub to have that meal.

I agree it is just cheap grub...the market it competes in is the same.

I manage to stop myself from getting bladdered.
So you go to a drinkery and don't get rat assed, I call bullst.
Ok, so completely ignore the rest of my post.

I quite often go to a drinkery and get trolleyed - but not in the context above. I can quite happily drive past a "Table Table" on the motorway and not feel the urge to do a line of J'bombs!

The last services I was in had a mini supermarket complete with booze section. Where's the outrage?

The beer is st because they buy stuff near its use by date to keep the price down

Wondering why it being next to a motorway makes the slightest difference,

Aren't the majority of pubs next to roads?
Yes, they are also close to houses, bus routes and train stations so you can find your way home when pissed. How long a break do lorry drivers needed after a full day behind the wheel? Could they have a pint or two before sleeping it off and getting going in the morning?
Um, theres 50 people on a coach and only 1 of them will be driving. Theres 5 seats in a car.... what is the problem with a service station not being on a bus route? I dont think that its market will be people who want a night out drinking.

Stage coaches stopped at coaching inns to change horses hundreds of years ago - alcohol has always been sold where drivers stop. I've seen people getting bladdered on ferries and driving off afterwards, no one ever comments about that. Storm in a tot glass if you ask me.

Yep, stopped on M6 at stafford yesterday, lots of beer in WH Smiths next to the sarnies.

It would make me more likely to stop and take a proper break than the current food trough or takeaway options at motorway service areas.

Weatherspoons do food too you know! A large full English for less than £5. I know because i had one this morning!
A large full English won't be £5 at a service station with a captive audience and sky high rates to pay. All fast food outlets hike their prices at a servie station, don't they.

Still, it's freedom of choice, so I've got nothing against the idea.

Is that for real?. Reason I ask is because a lot of pints Iv had there had been very average. Had a chilled carling in a pub that has won a lot of awards for real ales etc, and it was amazing. Like a different drink, it must be how its stored etc?

Loads of things could've affected it - temperature, gas, pipes, glass condition, as well as the actual beer.

I think the only people who are really complaining about this are likely to be the serial complainers such as Brake et al anyway.

One small victory for the ordinary traveller smile

Lets face it though, weatherspoons can double their prices and still massively undercut everything else in the services.

The Wetherspoons at Liverpool airport is fairly normally priced, can't see why motorway service stations would be different.

They do buy beer close to it's use by date. Though in theory it shouldn't be a problem, the idea is that they shift such high volumes that the customer still gets it before it's timed out.
