Talking of Karma, Joan Rivers nearly popped it yesterday during an operation on her throat. Sadly she survived.

Unless it is free speech we disagree with, then it's fine to punch a man in the face or wish death on an elderly woman.
Charming. Simply charming.
I understand what you are saying there and I agree that some of the comments about a controversial comedienne are well out of order. Unless it is free speech we disagree with, then it's fine to punch a man in the face or wish death on an elderly woman.

That said, I'm struggling to feel any sympathy or surprise about Galloway.
His exclusive support of one community is divisive and separatist, if it were done for a group of predominantly white christians it would be considered unacceptable and probably racist in a multicultural society but being a white guy supporting a minority group has allowed him to be blatantly prejudiced with impunity.
He acts like a verbal thug against anyone who doesn't agree with his views and if he did make those comments about Jews in his area then little wonder that he now gets his jaw broken by someone shouting about the holocaust.
I went to stuffy public school (seems like a thousand years ago). During an assembly a Rabbi was invited in to speak to the school. He was a brilliant speaker and impressed. I was standing with my fellow six formers. One large chap who was well known for his lack of tolerance began commenting about the Rabbi. We told him to shut it but he persisted, presumably comfortable that he was immune from attack. His comments became more ugly moving to the War, camps.......you can guess the rest. During morning break another six former who was about a third of the size of the school oaf walked calmly up to the oaf and hit him with a single left hook Henry Cooper would have been proud of, which floored the oaf. The boy calmly walked off. Nothing was said, even the teachers turned a blind eye. The kid had balls, the oaf stood up wobbling and whinging like an old woman. But he kept his mouth firmly shut about other stuff. I went up to the kid and congratulated him on a super hook. I couldn't resist asking him why. He said his father had lost his family in the camps and left it at that.
The world is a place of wonder. But we know it's also a place of untold suffering. Humans can't seem to create one thing without the other. And it's the ordinary families who get caught up in the middle and suffer. And that's neither fair nor right. We need leaders regardless of what views they have to push for moderation and dialogue, to confront the issues placed by the extremes on either side to deliberately stop discussion. Extremists feed off each other comfortable in the knowledge someone else usually gets hurt.
GG is a poor leader. He loves the media attention an extreme position brings. I'm sure he sincerely believes he's right to speak out, but he knows moderation requires significantly harder work and doesn't grab headlines.

I entirely concur, there should be no place in our society for attacks on someone because we disagree with their views, I hope they catch the perp soon and bang him up for a respectable period of time.Unless it is free speech we disagree with, then it's fine to punch a man in the face or wish death on an elderly woman.

If an idiot cannot express himself freely in this country without fear of repercussions, then sadly we have become no different to other parts of the world which we often criticise.
Those who support the attack (and offer a virtual pint to the thug who did it) should hang their heads in shame.

So anyone who disagrees with someone else is free to punch them and we should just shrug our shoulders? That said, I'm struggling to feel any sympathy or surprise about Galloway.

I don't feel much sympathy for the man. But there is an underlying principle at stake here which is more important than agreeing with his politics.

In principle I agree with you, in practice (in this particular case) I feel OK about shrugging my shoulders.I don't feel much sympathy for the man. But there is an underlying principle at stake here which is more important than agreeing with his politics.
Mr Galloway's form of politics is divisive and corrosive and supports those that wish to divide communities.
I am a firm believer in trying one's best to bring different communities together, sometimes a naive wish, but nevertheless I think it is the best chance we have in the World today.
In my opinion he is in the same camp as the BNP.
Freedom of speech is the most powerful of weapons we have to fight extremists,it always saddens me when characters like Galloway abuse that freedom to spread hatred and prejudice.
I do not approve of him being physically attacked.
I fear such an attack will give him another platform on which to spread his odious opinions.
