Rtx seriously his misplaced comments do not warrant the amount of abuse you are heaping out. Just ignore it, all you have done is turned an potential interesting thread into an argument and for unknow reasons just brought it uo again to stir Some more.

As to your picture hopefully bringing the thread back in track I don't know either but that looks very close to the buildings to me. Are they not the runways over to the left running diagonally?

According to local media it was indeed taking off but suffered a compressor failure prior to V1. Fuel line didn't cut so set the engine on fire. ARFF on site within 2 minutes of mayday.
13 taken to hospital so far.

Are you not supposed to,leave all, your luggage in an emergency, how did they get cases down the inflatable ramps, and couldn't the extra time taken getting them and potential for blockage in a panic caused delays resulting I deaths if the fire was a little faster?
I imagine it was a case of the flight crew telling everyone to leave everything and get off, and the passengers having an "It's only in the locker above me, I might as well get it" attitude.

Guardian reporter who was on board has asked not to blame people for taking their hand luggage with them. WTF!?

People usually get injured during an evacuation. It's obviously preferable to staying on board a burning aircraft though.

Well done all involved, looks like the crew did a great job.

Firstly good effort getting everybody off safely, but WTF!!

How can people be so selfish as to think bags in the aisles and chutes may not be a lethal hazard

They deserve all the twitter grief they get

I have to admire pilots, listening to the mayday call it's amazing how calm they are.

Hats off to the pilots and stewards, boo to idiots saving their duty frees.

Jesus, not being there so no idea as to the conditions but my efforts would have been for the door sans luggage. As an observer sat safe at a desk. What am I missing?

Question for people in the know...

If this was airborne would they have been able to extinguish the fire?

Would the air passing by/through at high speed have fanned the flames or stopped it taking hold to this extent?

I'd honestly be happy to see police going through the footage, identifying those with bags and prosecuting them for... something.

Incredibly irresponsible, was shocked to see people with two bags in some cases.

I would like an explanation on why this has been left in NPE but the Shoreham crash was banished to BTP?
