So if the convoy breaks traffic rules - they are not police officers (in the UK sense) - legally, could they be prosecuted?

It would be amusing to see "The Beast" pulled over for running a red light or doing 80 on the motorway wink

It's not just the limo that came over. I saw a column (at a guess, 8 or 9) armoured Police vehicles this morning on the A12. And they certainly weren't UK Police vehicles - they were American models, in black, with "POLICE" written on in white, in the style of US police vehicles. They were also vast, and clearly very, very heavily armoured.

I didn't see the numberplates, or whether they were LHD, but I can't believe they weren't American. They were also in convoy with some UK police Transit riot vans, which looked like childs toys alongside them ...

Oli.
The Met recently purchased several Jankel Guardian armoured vehicles from the US, primarily for use at the airports...

Was that the beastie?

Technically, I think they'd be alright. It doesn't have to necessarily be a Police OFFICER driving said vehicle, although the law was recently tightened to include only qualified drivers.

Since the Beast is protecting a major head of state in convoy with many other Police vehicles, I think it could be reasonably assumed to be used "for police purposes" and, by dint of that, a "Police vehicle" whilst it's being so used.

In any case, I'm sure they've told the scamera vans to bugger off... Van on bridge with laser sighting equipment? Riskeh! :Silly:

Good call. It could have been. I thought that the ones I saw had slightly more angular fronts, and I think they had a different design of windscreen. But I'm not 100% sure - I was trying to concentrate on driving around them to see the detail!

The colour (very dark blue, possibly black) with "POLICE" in white lettering was right. Although those vehicles were more of a single-block shape, with "Police" on the doors and bonnet - the Jankel pictured above looks like a seperate cab with a box on the back.

I'll see if I can find anything on Google Images which looks more familiar.

Oli.

ETA: This looks more familiar, but as I said, I'm not 100%.

That's what I thought - at first I was thinking that I'd mistakenly come onto a forum at The Independent or similar carbon-cultist hand wringing rag rolleyes

+1. It seemed pretty good to me, and was only 3 or 4 turns, its note as if he had to do a 9-point turn.

Its all about 'POWER'

Air Force One, Beast, Marine One, convoy of big chevy suburbans, hundreds of SS boys in Black. thats how the US big daddy rolls...always has been, always will be...environmentalists can take a hike!

When big daddy goes to another town, the town knows about it!

Imagine the scene if Obama landed in a stainless steel tube called American Airlines?

I was thinking exactly the same thing.
Every morning I see mums struggling much more in much smaller cars and in much wider streets.

Do you think the MPG is much worse than Jezza's F40..?

Or burns as much fuel as the time when TG had the Veyron..?

A procession of V8's running round London on a Tunnel Run..?

Get a grip people, this is a Motoring forum. Debate the car - if you agree or like it.. Not the fact is't here and damaging the Ozone, or has a high Carbon Footprint.
