Getting light at 4am in the summer is a waste as most of us want to be still asleep. I actually like this +2 hours idea.

Also why are we one hour different from Europe anyway?

I worked on a diary farm in Denmark in my yoof and in the Summer you could go for a walk across the fields at 11pm and it was still pretty light.

Why doesn't scotland get a different timezone? Most of america and canda deal with being in different timezones, i'm sure the scottish could.

I like the idea

I'm fully in favour the idea of a +2 summer change. Agree on the idea that longer evenings will increase sporting/leisure activities but then it would still have to go back in the evenings for the reason that it would be dark all morning in winter if +2 was maintained.

And twice a year scottish farmers get the blame for an english law brought in by the english to help english factories during a war started by the english.
Point of order - the Germans started it (both the practice of Daylight Savings Time, and the war)

So if summertime was change to GMT+2 that would mean it wouldn't start getting dark 'til gone 11.30 at night, that's really going to help those of us who have to get up early for work. I'm bad enough as it is for trying to sleep when it's still light in the evening.

Being someone who is definately not a mornng person and someone who loves the light summer evenings and hates with a passion when its dark at 3:50pm in winter i think this is great and hope it passes.
Read that back to yourself.

Then just slap yourself.

Read it again and think.

During the winter. The sun doesn't rise up here even in newcastle until gone 9am, so putting forward the clocks 2 hours will mean 11am sunrise!
Same here in Blackpool, I guess it doesn't matter though, it's only the Southern pansies who are relevant, the rest of us can go fk ourselves I guess.

Because Britain is further west.

Between about the middle of November 'til about the middle of February I go to work in the dark (7 am) and I travel home in the dark (4:30ish).

Will somebody please enlighten me as to what the fk difference it will make.

It would be lovely to play sports or do some kind of activity in the evenings, but it's not the lack of light thats a problem.

It's the pissing rain and the sub-zero temperatures!

Leave it as is.

Too often these days, things are changed for no other reason than change.

Not further West than Spain, Portugal and the Canaries.

No that is why Portugal and the Canaries are in our time zone. The British Isles stretch further west than Spain.

It all goes back to when France and us were battling it out to set Standardised time doesn't it?
