Also... Russia's population is only 140 million, slightly more than Japan with wealth concentrated mostly around Moscow and the West
I know Soviet Union had ~300 million in total and guessed Russia had to participate with at least 2/3rds but looking at wikipedia now I was obviously wrong http://www.economist.com/news/finance-and-economic...

it's still a huge number though dispersed on huge territory and a mix of very different mentalities throughout
also "weakening economy" could just be effect of olympic games, they have spent roughly 50 billions on that show, maybe(just maybe) it will have some long-term positive effects on their economy
He is not the one swallowing hook, line, and sinker here.
And Wikipedia, as you know, is an encyclopedia, therefore is only a repository of knowledge that has to previously exist elsewhere (otherwise the infamous "citation needed" will be appended to any unsourced statement). It should be treated with caution, as due to the editing abilities an article could be changed or even vandalized quickly (although that is not the case about Putin's article which is semi-protected since the killings on Maidan) but usually a quick glance to the article talk page is enough to filter out any possible bias and, if there is any, to understand from where it comes.

Think Russian intervention is now inevitable.

So the pro Ukranian supporters attacked, set fire and burned a building with people in it resulting with at least 31 people killed. If the Russians had done this our politicians would have been making statements already.
Think Russian intervention is now inevitable.
Hopefully not. The terms of a political settlement are clear, although it just got harder. Think Russian intervention is now inevitable.
Russia certainly wants a settlement, which raises the strong suspicion that it is the EU and the US that are encouraging the dragging of heels to 'punish' Putin and make sure there's a price to pay (primarily economic) for Crimea. Which means that the deaths - all the deaths - are unecessary and Ukrainians, whichever language they speak at home, are regarded as expendable on the altar of spanking Russia. Hence Obama at the White House, standing next to Merkel, cheerleading the use of force against pro-Russian protestors.
And push it too far, and the legacy of bitterness makes the future of Ukraine increasingly difficult - it's certainly hard to see Odessa (regarded as a 'Russian city', and a mystic, romantic place by most Russians), ever being the same again.
