Unless I a missing someting, why all the snarl ups in London last week with drivers not using the olympic lanes, they don't come into force until the 25th.

Are these the same drivers who don't use bus lanes when they are not bus lanes.

If I lived in London, or was driving into it, I would make sure I knew whats what before going.

Some road signs say from the 15th, some say from the 25th. Some say both (Euston road for example) at random intervals, followed by matrix signs saying they're open.

Like bus lanes, some people are happy not to be in them and risk a fine. As it's very easy to miss the sign telling you you're in a prohibited lane when either bored in traffic or avoiding suicidal cyclists, I can't blame them.
Strange that, my email from transport for london (which I get as I am registered for thr congestion) clearly states 25th, another cock up, or is the 15th a cock up?

I honestly couldn't tell. I'm sure that there are some rogue signs that have been put by mistake, but if memory serves the M4 lane cam into operation on the 15th because of the athletes arrival. The a2 (possibly technically the a102) into London before the Blackwall is another erroneous zone as I'm sure the signs say 15th, matrix signs say they're open.

I really do find myself torn between not wanting the UK to be a laughing stock if the games go badly, to wanting it to be a total utter fk up in the vain hope that people will finally realise just how far we've sold ourselves down the corporate river.
Well unlike some people on here I want some value for money from the £13bn forcibly extracted from the UK taxpayer.
So I'm looking for amusement and entertainment, and some kind of 'wow' factor.

With that in mind I have fingers crossed for strikes during the games, a major G4S feck-up, gridlocked london delaying both competitors, officials and crowds, ticket scandals, guffs from the elite and the big one: I'm hoping for continuous heavy rain__ for __every single day of this sorry corporate branding event that has and is costing us dear.

I have no objection to people running round in circles and throwing things on their own time and money, but this farcical event isn't about that, it's about corporate greed, control and forcing hapless idiots into their idea of corporate utopia. Feckers.

Pray for rain. Lots of it. Every single day.

I guess that when you buy a ticket, or win one, or whatever the retarded method is for obtaining one, you sign away your life to a million rules such as that in the small print. There will be a box to tick that you have read the terms and conditions. Nobody ever reads them, but all click that they have.

Just as confirmation of the olympic lanes, the a102 before the blackwall tunnel has signs on the gantry saying 15th yet signs on the side of the road that say 25th.

But whatever you do, 'don't' bring a brolly - it will be confiscated.

We have plenty on site with Get Fit with a Big Mac, or Things get Wetter with Coke
all at simply outrageous prices.
We, the sponsors, not you, will be simply Luvin' it.

See you there and don't forget bring your Visa so we can empty it for you.

No balls, rackets, frisbees or similar object..
Food must not be in "excessive amounts" – yes to sandwiches, no to picnic hampers..

NO liquids over 100ml allowed, Payment with Visa or Cash ONLY..

ffs

I so want to make a website to document all this farce.

Ban list seems reasonable as you can't trust people to have common sense with what they take to a packed venue on busy public transport. I guess the liquid thing is the same reason as airlines as it's a high profile target. You can take a bottle and fill it with free water which seems reasonable.
fking glad they've banned big hats and flags etc. I've paid a lot of money for a ticket, I want to actually see and hear the games, not through someones hat or with an air horn next to my ear.

And that tt who said his plans were "ruined" because he couldn't take a hamper and some ball games for his little cherubs. I mean FFS, what was he imagining, Leeds castle festival or something? Has he ever been to a proper busy public sporting event?? He is the reason we need guidelines for numpties.

McDonalds thing is ridiculous (although article suggests it's being re-thought). Unfortunately in todays austere market I guess you have to take all the sponsors you can (I mean, they're even using BMWs to ferry people about).

How long until Coke, McD et al turn around and tell GB to stop causing their brands harm with their gestapo interpretation of the rules?

Or do they think these rules being enforced would benefit them?

I can't see the french or italians getting that worked up.
I'm afraid i can't see them complaining at all.

A can of Pepsi has 330ml... have you seem 100ml for sale anywhere?
Not even a can of Fanta allowed in case it takes away a sale from tooth-rot cola at the farce.

Haven't seen it before and, love it! biggrin

Incidentally, at the back of the stadium complex lies the Lee navigation. About two hundred yards to the south, backing on to said canal are some industrial units. One of these units has a sign up advertising 'Olympic Cycle Hire'. Would seem it has escaped the eyes of the Olympic killjoys. biggrin

Wow! Just watched Jaques Rogge on the news. Has he had a stroke or is he always that numb?

Unbelievable that he is in such a position, he can hardly string a few words together.

Great answer when challenged on the takeover of a 5 star hotel for his committee, at the taxpayers expense.

"we have to have accommodation somewhere".

If so, his position is not entirely dissimilar to mine.
