No surprises with the vote today. It would be like a turkey voting for Christmas.
My guess is that Swinney will take over, retire in 2026 or before, Forbes will be offered a position in a mini-reshuffle - and the Greens will be ignored.
There might be another VONC in a year or so when they realise they can't pass any legislation - which might not be a bad thing.
Hopefully they will concentrate less on the progressive policies and more on delivering the things that the majority of people care about.
TBH I think that devolution has run into the sand.

fking Green's...blew it for everyone, after getting the chop they went crawling back to keep grifting for another two years.

I have now shifted my deep hate from the SNP to Patrick Harvey...what a sniveling little creep of a man.

Their plan will be to cosy up to the new FM pleading to return to government posts...they make me want to vomit
I suspect this is exactly it. Snouts back into the ministerial trough, if it’s Swinney who’s elected (or selected, given this headline - https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-68939241 )- then they’ll be welcomed back as he’s desperate for those 7 votes and incapable of making deals with other parties.

Both parties deserve electoral oblivion in 2026 but given our idiotic electorate and even more moronic voting system I suspect it won’t happen.

I'm not so sure about spinney welcoming the Greens back into government. They were pretty toxic with a lot of SNP voters. If Swinney is the next FM then I think he will run a minority government before retiring at the next election. He will end his career at the top and retire on a huge public sector pension. After Humza Yousaf he will seem positively statesman like!

I suspect one of the reasons the Greens don’t want an election is that they rely on SNP voters using their list vote for them; this could well change at the next election as the SNP will rely more on list votes if their constituency vote declines, and also, like you say, diehard SNP voters might think twice about lending their vote to the toxic greens given their recent performance.

WOW...just listen to Harvie, there is something seriously wrong with this lot, they have a scary obsession with this kind of thing and want to push it everywhere.

Its wrong and something needs to be done about it.

The “not so honest John” line was a good comeback to the presiding officer, made even better by Swinney’s apoplectic reaction.

I suggested a couple already.

Tyremarks (coz he's been under the bus countless times).

Boppo the Clown (doesn't matter how many times he's punched, he'll get back up for more).

They should replace the statue of Donald Dewar in Buchanan Street with one of John Swinney. Just make sure that there are large denomination notes falling from the statue's pockets. Sums up perfectly what the SNP has represented for the past decade.

Yes. Enjoyed that. Less of the widespread praise for Forbes. TBH she only looks competent compared to the dullards she is surrounded by. I do admire her honesty but it takes more than honesty to govern well though it would be a start.

In each of the last two elections the Greens have won two seats in Lothian. She was 2nd on the list to Alison Johnstone, but Johnstone is currently the presiding officer. If Johnstone was to retire in 2026 then one would imagine Slater would be first on the list and it would take a hell of a slump to take them from 2 down to none, though I guess if Alba could produce a very good result then it’s possible.
