Good god what a voice he had, just phenomenal and this gig shows it off incredibly well considering his age.

At 53 a person's voice is probably at it's peak - if it has been looked after properly.

GM wasn't exactly known for looking after himself properly!

This is one artist who was on my must see live list, I wish I'd been able to go.

You don't sing with your nose.

I don't think he did much to damage his vocal chords.

Lots of good singers have kept their voices right through their 60s. It's only in their 70s that time finally begins to take its toll.

I know this is an obituary thread but I'd say it should celebrate his life too.

Based on the above what is your favourite GM / Wham song? Any of you have his song as a wedding song etc?

For me it's Praying for time - lost a close friend and this brings back those fond memories like it was yesterday. Sad powerful and wonderful.

I'm a bit 'meh' when it comes to celebrity deaths, but I did like his music, as I've grown up with him.i did like him.
I Can't say I was impressed with his driving when pissed and public toilet visits, especially when there was no need to..
But watching him live at the Freddie mercury concert, hand on heart, I don't think anyone could of sang that better.

For me it is the "Listen Without Prejudice" ........album in full.

Xmas 1990, Canadian Club, Polo after shave, Paul Smith, Soap Studio suits and Christopher New knitwear and that album where all things that made one of my first Christmas's after leaving school so damned special.

Just watched the tribute on BBC, he was something else, truly stunning voice.

Praying for time is powerful and ominous. It makes me feel guilty when I listen to the message of the song.
I like so much of his work and don't really have a favourite, the Aretha Franklin duet is great.

As I posted earlier in this thread, Praying For Time.

It's just one of the most amazing songs ever written/sung imho. Unadulterated genius.

His duet with Mary J Blige is a favourite of mine. It just perfectly suits the jazz/smooth genre.

How he went to crack addict with a taste for crystal meth is very perplexing but then he's only human I suppose.

Careless Whisper - I was a bit of a with the ladies in my younger years and this always makes me think of the knob I occasionally was.

Great times though 🍻

I've never really listened to his music. I'm from a slightly earlier era.

However, I heard the concert on the telly earlier, and I must admit that he sounded like a great showman.

I can understand why Frank Sinatra once paid him tribute. Different voices, but the same thing.

For me, it has to be "I can't make you love me". What a voice. Special meanings too on getting together with my current beautiful lady, who I never thought would fall for me... but I waited, and thank goodness she did.

Great voice, fair liked his music. Last Christmas will never be the same again!

Sometimes kids say the funniest things. When I told the little one she said "oh well at least he got to open his presents" and it just made me immensely sad. Poor guy, R.I.P George.
