  1. UPDATE German Chancellor Angela Merkel to convene security council to address deadly shooting rampage in Munich
So yet another bs story from express.
Imagine similar act happened here this afternoon (just for arguments sake).

Theresa May quiet all day then says she will convene a meeting 'tomorrow', ...no rush. rolleyes

Watching those news pictures and seeing all those armed Police and knowing they all would be unarmed in this country.

Not sure that it seems to have actually made any difference one way or another either to the original incident or what happened afterwards.

Plus they aren't *all* unarmed in the UK are they?

Also minor point that Germany has one of the highest rates of private gun ownership in the world.

I suspect it maybe because its on-going. She is probably glued to the live feeds in an ops room, not at home doing some knitting.

Radial idea - but maybe she wants to be properly informed, know what she's dealing with, rather than jumping to conclusions like many posters in this discussion?

She can't make any decisions right now that will be better than those made by the police commanders on the ground. What she can do is look at the longer term strategic issues once this situation has been brought under control and she knows who is responsible.
I understand that she can't jump to conclusions, but she's the leader of the country. She needs to be leading, and calling for calm. Look at what happened with Erdogan in Turkey - he Facetimed the nation to make sure they knew he was still in charge.

Convene it tomorrow apparently?
That's what I've heard, ministers were recalled from holidays. Her 2nd in command gave short info on TV. This is from a friend in Ger (not Munich). Apparently want to get as much info as possible.

ETA; still bs story from express. Then again, targeted at certain demographic.

Sooner or later, it sadly will happen in the UK.

As today has proved banning guns has not worked for Europe. Wake up victims! I am so glad I do not live there any more. What a sorry state your continent is in.
German police are all armed and German citizens have close to the same rate of gun ownership as Americans.

So gun bans have fk all to do with it.

Still nothing from Merkel. Doubt her career will survive this.
Who becomes the supposed Head of Europe if she goes (Europe, not the EU, I'm not talking about Juncker's position)?
Blair?

The Mail is reporting a witness saying the gunman seen in the video was also inside the McDonald's and came out of the toilets and started shooting children inside the restaurant and shouting the infamous 'Allahu Akbar!'
Very confused picture given the video conversation on the car park rooftop which suggests a different brand of terrorism.

Seems like bks given there was a crowd stood watching him ranting outside the McDonalds.

If he was shooting inside or shouting Allahu Akbar I doubt that would be the case.

Sky suggesting perhaps this is a lone gunman who shouted on video that he was born in Germany and hated the Turks???

It matters if you're the copper responding and the nearest ARV is 30 minutes away.

Where's her press conference? It's been six hours, is she busy doing a jigsaw or something? I found this:

http://zeenews.india.com/news/world/chancellor-ang...

Which states the meeting will be tomorrow. It all seems a little lackadaisical given that it still seems to be a live situation.

1st rule of Media & PR - nature abhors a vacuum. If you don't say anything, people will make up stuff and if enough people belive it, it will become the truth.

She needed to have come out and said exactly what you just said - she's waiting for more info and will be in touch with the German people as soon as she knows what's what.

It's really easy.

PR 101.

You're right, gun ownership is working out great for the US isn't it?

How many people have died from guns today in the US?

This is a somewhat unique situation...in the US it's everyday.
