Was looking for the thread to post just this.
George is either blissfully unaware or doesn't care less

Seeing as he’s said “see you in court” perhaps he fancies making some sort of point.

He's going to try to say that "No Israel Flags on the cup!" is the same as saying "No North Korean Flags on the cup!" ie it's not anti-semitic but is anti-Israel.

I think his problem here might be that as Tottenham have a perceived (but not actual when compared to Arsenal etc) strong Jewish support then he is actually conflating Israel with Jews and thus is being anti-semitic. Why else would he infer that a Tottenham win would result in Jews putting the Israel flag on the cup? I doubt Tottenham have strong support in Israel.

He said it was because he saw Israeli flags in the stadium, which surprised me.

It doesn't surprise me. Spurs fans always have Israeli flags in their crowd. Every single match.

I can't stand GG, but this tweet wasn't anti Semitic. He may well be anti Semitic, but this tweet isn't. It's anti Israel, which is a perfectly valid view.

Ok - I have only been to WHL once and have never noticed any such flags on the TV. Given I watched a lot of champions league stuff and didn't notice one Israel flag GG did well to spot them. although it's likely he had consumed significantly less red wine than me.

Not so. They are probably the most popular foreign club in Israel.

Spurs celebrate with their fans after their CL semi final away at Man City.

I am not doubting you - just stayed that I had never noticed.

Given GG is a Celtic and MU fan it did seem a bit of a gratuitous dig.

But if someone had said "shame Liverpool won, didn't want to see African flags on the trophy", would that not be considered racist?

Well Africa isn't a country, so it's a bit of a strange comparison. But, expanding your theme, suppose there was a huge Zimbabwean population in Liverpool, who mainly supported Liverpool, and who went along to games and had the Zimbabwe flag in the crowd at every match, then no, it wouldn't be racist to say "glad spurs won, no Zimbabwe flags on the cup". Given that many people don't like the Zimbabwean govt and don't want to see their flag paraded.

As a Man U fan, I'd have thought he'd be happy to see Liverpool lose.

Look, he doesn't like Israel. He's made no secret of the fact. We can think he's right or wrong, but not liking Israel, in itself, is not anti Semitic.

Well if it's not an anti-semitic comment he'll win his court case.

Not even remotely ,United and Liverpool are by an enormous margin the most popular teams .

Not really sure though if it’s relevance given Galloway clearly conflates anti Israel sentiment with anti semitism .

He may do. But no evidence of it in that tweet. And to be honest, the worst offenders for conflating anti Israel sentiment with anti Semitism is the Israeli govt. Any criticism of them is labelled as anti Semitism by them.

Where? He doesn't mention Jews at all. The tweet is blatantly anti Israeli. You may like that, or not, but it isn't anti Semitic. He may well be anti Semitic, but he wasn't in that tweet.
