People go to a pro-cannabis event and coppers think they're going to throw their pot away? Full marks to the idiot who thought that one up.Edited by bad company on Wednesday 4th May 15:38

Quite - some people who 'indulged' in cannabis on a regular basis were not lucky enough to become hollywood stars* - their life went of a very different path...To becoming a world renowned astrophysicist, astrobiologist and cosmologist. Guy wasted his time writing over 600 scientific papers which are archived in the library of congress and did incredible work in learning how the universe works - and bringing it to the publics understanding. Imagine what he could have achieved if he didn't have cannabis psychosis which effects all users as we know from some of the well informed people posting in this thread.
He co-wrote an award winning TV show that was seen by over 500m people in 60 countries.
He spent most of his career as a professor of astronomy at Cornell University, where he directed the Laboratory for Planetary Studies. He, and his works, received numerous awards and honors, including the NASA Distinguished Public Service Medal, the National Academy of Sciences Public Welfare Medal, the Pulitzer Prize for General Non-Fiction for his book The Dragons of Eden, and, regarding Cosmos: A Personal Voyage, two Emmy Awards, the Peabody Award and the Hugo Award.
What a fking loser Carl Sagan was - he could have been as successful as PHXKR if only he'd not smoked weed.
- ETA - sorry he also wrote the book Contact which was a made into a major motion picture so my initial comment was a little wide of the mark.

Just think, if he hadn't smoked weed the film Contact might not have been so poor.To becoming a world renowned astrophysicist, astrobiologist and cosmologist. The great Carl Sagan. Has it really been 20 years?
It all depends on the individual. Some can smoke weed regularly and have no negative impact upon their lives, whereas for others it can be a gateway to harder drugs. I've had many clients for who, once the taboo of using a drug had been broken, went on the experiment with other drugs including crack Cocaine and Heroin. (Both of which can be quite morish)

Accept that the genie is out of the bottle. Police forces can't cope. My force is having to cope with a £4m budget cut next year. Possession gets as many resources as parking.
Police forces can't cope because sentencing is so pathetic surely? If there was some deterrent value in the sentences dished out then there would be less instances needing policing?PH XKR said:
Never heard of him but to attribute his success to weed, I'd imagine without it he might have achieved more.
He believed it to be beneficial to his work. But since you have never heard of him - and he was a bona fide genius, I'm going to err on the side of the highly decrorated professor of astrophysics rather than the ill informed misanthrope posting ignorant invective.
