Jim the picture is not of an SAS soldier. it is of a well known tough acting tv soap star.

the post was meant as a joke.

It happens, we just don't slather it across the news rags of the world.

There is always an advantage in keeping quiet about your capabilities.

Hes and actor who played hardmen on British tv, and then did a series about the gangs of the world. He looks the part but basically is a bit of a luvvie
But that's not the joke, the joke being he starred in a series where he was in the SAS then did a send up of himself on Gervais' Extras where he pretends like he was actually in the SAS.

Doesn't the UK government have a policy of never discussing/confirming special forces operations?

Do you mean the hostages we hear are still stuck abroad are actually tucked up safe and sound, but secretively, at home? Oh good...

Yes I know they've done all sorts over the years, some acknowledged some not, but we do have/have had kidnap victims/hostages abroad and I don't recall mention of many being repatriated recently? Are we trying is what I'm wondering about...

If 'we' sent the boys out to rescue every swinging dick tourist who bravely travelled into areas they had been told to keep well away from, there would be no SAS left when we really needed them.

Everywhere you look in the world, every hot spot, every danger zone, every pirate riddled coastline, you'll see a number of heroic clowns trying to prove something to themselves.....

Well, you'd think that if they rescued a couple of high profile captives who've been in and out of the news for months they might just consider it!

Being close to Djibouti would give the 'mericans drone surveillance to back up some general information they must have had; maybe there has been no general info on the whereabouts of the UK hostages, no specific info, maybe they change locations too often (the danish ones were too ill to move??)...

I'm sure the political will is there (after all, gubberment need a few good stories at the moment) and the expertise is there, we can borrow US kit / assets to support I'm sure, so really it may be just a case that the US got lucky on a location (pizza deliveries wink ) and we haven't.

It's a godforsaken feckin place, lots of NGO types swanning around. Silly really.

Maybe they do not want the publicity? Embassies apart, who really knew what the did and do. There is always the bloke down the pub on the end of the bar that is an expert, but maybe keeping out the limelight suits them?

Anyway, can't think of any UK hostages that have been in the news recently. Maybe there is another clue there.

Its amazing that the yanks

Still think the russians have the right idea.
What- gas the place, kill and/or poison hundreds of hostages before blowing the doors down and going in guns blazing, then evacuate the hostages but not tell the doctors what you've gassed them with? I think I'd rather not be saved at all if a Russian anti-terrorist operation was the alternative.
