Does the fact the islanders want to live there and remain British matter?

Apparently not. Anyone noticed how Rio Grande is closer to Chili than Argentina? I think they should give it back. Also anyone seen the Hawaiian flag - sort out the paperwork Obama.

Apparently not. The logic used is that if it's close to somewhere else, then it must belong to them. Bit like Germany felt about their neighbours in the late 30's.

It's nowhere near the UK and Argentina is by far the nearest landmass. It's just an excuse for a load of bullsh*t posturing from both sides. We couldn't defend it anyway and even if we could it wouldn't be worth losing anyone's life over.
A lot of sense there, albeit somewhat controversial.

Back in the 1980s it would have made a lot more sense to offer the Falklanders £1m each and a choice of whether they wanted to stay where they were (under Argentine rule) or resettle in UK. As it turned out many billions were spent and hundreds of lives were lost.
Oh the Galloway tripe. We could and probably would have negotiated such a settlement if argentina hadn't invaded and caused several hundred brutish lives to be lost. They chose military action over diplomacy and now lives are gone there can be no going back

Nice one.

I'm waiting to hear a logical argument from someone.
The fishing wealth means the islands are self funding , potential oil wealth would cover initial cost of MPA.

Plus improving access to and conferred rights to Antarctica.

Plus the fact it is never just an economic calculation- inference being you would only defend part of the UK from foreign invasion if the cost benefits stcked up .e.g : invade somewhere in the UK sparsely populated and the locals just have to accept their loss of freedom (that is what you are inferring....)(which is utterly stupid)

It's what the education system encourages so maybe we should hehe

As for the Falklands debate, why does the opinion of a z-list 'celeb' matter? Why does he think that his opinion on the matter requires media attention?

Considering the islands are 290 miles from Argentina, I fail to see how they can claim ownership by proximity confused

Music lovers all over the world have been calling for this for the past 25 years.

Dismal, atonal, washed-up gob-ste tw@t.

As for goldblum, I've scraped things off the sole of my shoe which engender more respect than you do.

Don't, please, hesitate to crawl off to some miserable dank hollow, there to fester in your own rank miasma, you utterly despicable piece of trolling excrement.
A hard, very hard, but fair appraisal...

Not as far as I'm concerned.I've always felt the 'troll' call to be the last resort of someone who can't actually think.Easier to insult etc..

I've given you my opinion, are you having difficulty understanding it?

Here you go;

1. a six year old glancing at a map could tell you it's not just nearer the Argentinian coast but the other side of the world as well.

2. It's a tiny island covered in sheep.

I wonder if we hadn't already fought over it whether the compulsion to retain it now would be so strong.

Really it's a waste of time.Give the Islanders 50 years notice before handing over then watch it all settle down.

Why don't the islanders have a say in any of that?

By that logic the US will be handing Alaska to Canada anytime now?
