Feels more like shameless promotion on behalf of Greggs than anything else. There's VAT on a Big Mac and fries, but that doesn't seem to stop the "poor" from dining there. Ditto my local KFC, which is a sea of velour jump suits and hoopy earrings come a Friday evening, with queues literally out of the door. If you can afford £10 for a bucket of deep fried crap, you can stomach 20p on a steak bake FFS.

It's no different from saying you don't eat Findus Crispy Pancakes with Bird's Eye Potato Waffles for your 'tea'.

Government must be laughing about this VAT nonsense, its obvious that it will be impossible to implement in practical terms at the till. The real Government objective must have been to introduce a new irrelevant VAT financial stream hoping that all the stuff about the important issues such as 'Granny Tax' will be forgotten.

You haven't seen the editorial in The Sun? One thing they won't be doing is laughing.

However it is illegal to walk around naked but i get charged VAT on my clothes
However you could cloth yourself for an entire year for £50-£100 if you shopped at some of the cheaper stores.

Anything you buy over the most basic clothing is not a neccesity.
i still pay VAT however

It is not all Gregs (though populist rhetoric has focused on this)

Hot chickens from supermarkets will be caught as well for example and there is no debate there.

This is PH so that will depend on the hot chicken being from ASDA or Waitrose.

Waitrose or Fortnum & Mason I would think rather than Asda?

Claiming Gideon eats roast swan and caviar is just having a bit of a larf, likewise, no one really expects Lord Fauntleroy to be frequenting Greggs (or any other MPs LIB/CON or LAB for that matter)or that it per se makes him out of touch.

But it does seem like a strange set of priorities - Tobin Tax? NO WAY ! Pie Tax? Yeah why not ? Doesn't affect Toryworld, just the poor, let's do it.
I'd say it just taxes the stupid. I buy pies but I will buy 4 of them in Sainsbury's for the same price as 1 pie in Greggs.

Indeed it is not just Gregs, its also all of those layby lorry driver snack bars, burger stalls seaside haunts and the list must go on and on. And I wonder just how much is hoped to be raised from this crackpot scheme? I will say one thing, this Government sure knows how to go about zero electability next time around. What a bunch of *%^$#(

FFS don't get hysterical. I thought you'd be against tax dodging loopholes.

I can stomach (no pun intended) the ridiculous and unenforcable pasty tax as the pubs in the south west still sell cider in plastic barrels and the only indication of strength is "sweet" or "dry" written on the side, no %abv so I guess they can still sell it at a price less than 40p per unit...

now i'm off to plough a field and sleep with my sister - ooh arr!

Seriously! is that all its expected to raise, no wonder previous Chancellors haven't introduced this, its barmy.
Why do you like VAT so much you want to see more of it? is it a personal thing or just backing the need to pay back the deficit.

I'm not sure who is qualifying as the 'working man' as it seems a very class driven description but I work and don't waste my money on a hot lunch, home made sandwiches are an alternative hence not essential.

It is an awful lot cheaper to have a packed lunch.
