That's a failing of the (well established) system of dealing with instances of straightforward medical negligence, and also of the systems we're supposed to have to educate, care for and protect everyone who needs it.

It shouldn't reflect on this woman's case or the suffering she (thinks she has/will) experiences, either way.

One person getting let down by the system shouldn't invalidate the idea that another person who feels they have been let down should be able to pursue that legally, or look into doing so.

my cousins son is also severely handicapped due to negligence on behalf of the NHS, but they are looking at a compensation claim reaching very easily into 6 figures. unfortunately, money doesnt really fix it
Indeedy, it won't make you not severely disabled, but it will make sure that you will always have the things you need, which sadly in current financial climate is very much not the case for those of us whose impairments were not caused or contributed to by someone's bad decision.

due to the NHS missing something

simple enough really, it's called negligence [again] the rest is window dressing to support that, but the fault and effect is quite clearly supported by the evidence.
Totally agree. But I'll ask the question again. Do you feel the amount claimed due to the NHS missing something is proportional to the suffering inflicted?

I'm obviously being a bit obtuse tonight. Where did I suggest that 'cos she didn't retrain after losing their cushy job at Daddy's cousins business then it must be categorized as being somebody who's a scrounging/socialist/commie/ne'er do well/chancer/trying it on scumbag who never did a days work/doley dosser etc etc.? confused
I was referring to the general PH philosophy of the entitlement thingy, your post was an example for me. If you disagree, fair enough. I still believe that the PH mantra is that 'if they don't come from the same class as me then fk them'
I'm out.
Sorry, where exactly did I say 'if they don't come from the same class as me then fk them'?

More to the point, where did I mention "class" at all? This woman is studying for an honours degree, hardly an uneducated benefits grasping chav then surely? confused

Genuinely fascinated to understand how you turned this into some kind of "class war" in your mind when it's not actually been mentioned anywhere! biggrin

At 6ft7" I should get about £1.5M then.

Do I just phone or would it be better to write to the NHS to give them my bank details for the transfer?

Heh at this typical PH reaction.

The hospital were negligent.

They had a duty to the patient. Had they not been, she would not have suffered harm.

You guys may not like it, but she has suffered harm and has rightly pursued her rights.

Maybe they were but what harm has she suffered?

No loss of limbs or faculties makes it hard to believe she's suffered any harm.

I do agree with you hear .if the hospital was negligent and it has effected her life then she should be paid out but at what amount.

I don't agree with comments on how she looks or the size of her remember people the reason she is bigger is due too a misdiagnosed illness not her fault.
It does seem a lot of compensation if it has not caused any major problems for her. a friend of mine as a kid was injected with something wrong which made him hard of hearing and effected his sight. He was payed out £120,000. But that was 25 years ago.
May be my mother should of clamp for my fathers misdiagnosed illness.

No negligence - 'normal' life.

Negligence - life of a teenage girl at 6'5', 20+ stone.

If you don't think she is likely to have different outcomes JUST because of her appearance, you are fooling yourself. Add to that the psychological harm, knowing but for their negligence she could have had a normal childhood and life.

She had argued in the High Court that her abnormal growth meant she was “effectively getting uglier, to the point where you can’t become an actress”.
What an utterly absurd thing to say!
I'm too ugly to be an actor, so is 85% of the population, so what?
And since when did tallness equal ugliness?
The story mentioned bone abnormality. It may be that the pituitary gland was making her bones grow beyond what they should as well, like an acromelic giant, such as Andre the giant.

This is Australian basketball player and swimsuit model Lauren Jackson.

6' 7". I would, but I'd probably need a step ladder since I'm a midget. Being tall doesn't make you ugly, being insecure about being tall makes you ugly. Also being ugly makes you ugly, but we haven't seen a confirmed pic.

I do find it quite amusing that the people of PH will defend to the death the legal rights of CEOs and bankers to retain their contractually agreed pensions and bonuses, but aren't too keen on the rule of law when applied elsewhere.

I think you'll find it's also fine if it's PHers or either family taking the legal action because in those cases it really was outrageous, the negligence. Like the endless threads bemoaning claims companies, then when someone get's hit it's 'anniesdad did a great job for me, stitched the other insurer RIGHT UP! RESULT!'

And we haven't seen a confirmed picture of this girl to know how she's been afflicted. It could be that she is just very tall. I was making the point that being six and a half feet tall doesn't make one ugly.
