And since when did PH start moaning, unironically, about carbon emissions? biglaugh
That's what I thought - at first I was thinking that I'd mistakenly come onto a forum at The Independent or similar carbon-cultist hand wringing rag rolleyes
PH - Whinging Matters.

So sad.

but again the co2 from that thing is insignificant compared to the fact that everywhere airforce one goes... its sister plane which is identical in every way, follows close behind.

now thats burning fuel!
The ship, or ginormous air transporter - presumably one of these - that brought it over though ffs...that'll turn his pure white carbon footprint (he's always banging on about gloopal wombling so it must be whiter than white, right?) into a very dark shade of, erm, a politically incorrect colour.

He is the most important, and powerful man in the world. I think we can cut him some slack for wanting something that will protect him, I would do exactly the same.

Do you think the MPG is much worse than Jezza's F40..?

Or burns as much fuel as the time when TG had the Veyron..?

A procession of V8's running round London on a Tunnel Run..?

Get a grip people, this is a Motoring forum. Debate the car - if you agree or like it.. Not the fact is't here and damaging the Ozone, or has a high Carbon Footprint.

That's not the point!!

The point is that this smacks of hipocrasy! There is NO need for 2 planes to bring him over (if AF1 broke here, I'm sure we'd lend him a plane to get home hehe), not does he need to bring his own armoured cars - we have (and make) them here...

A lot of the kit they bring will have stuff that we can't lend them - for example AF1 can be used to conduct a war, over secure communications channels, and they're not about to hand over the specs for those systems to save a bit of fuel.

Also as has been said before, I suspect the decision to bring their own armoured cars is a secret service one, not one made by the president himself(I'd imagine organising his own travel plans is not part of his remit).

Fair point, but they still don't need the 2nd AF1 here - just in case wink

And it is still hipocrasy - it may not be on his say so, but he can say NO!

I see the Theodore Roosevelt Carrier is around Portsmouth all week, surely that's not to do with this visit too?

According to a variety of news sources, they bring over not just one helicopter, but a bunch so they can have decoys. The Beast does about 6mpg, and can do 60mph with all the tyres shot out. It has its own air supply, 8" thick armour and carries a supply of the President's blood. It can withstand an RPG attack and chemical attack.

They also bring ALL their own fuel for all vehicles and aircraft. Presumably to avoid paying the extra 2p on fuel which everyone seems to have forgotten today.

They added some octane booster as well. Probably.

Surely you're not accusing the Government of deliberately introducing something on a day with lots of other news?
Burying it, as it were. They wouldn't do that would they?

I cannot believe this is the same group of people who ridicule lentilists and global warming advocates every day.

Interesting insight into the Brit mentality.

Big O has 200 personnel accompanying him - advisers, CIA dudes etc

They gotta get here somehow.....

Afterall, he is the President of the United States, travelling to supposedly the most important meeting of our lives......

What do you think the world's media would say if he popped into Heathrow clutching an AmAirlines economy ticket?

We'd laugh him outta town and declare the USA in decline..... biggrin

I like a bit of fanfare personally, as long as it's someone else's fanfair smile

I thought there were rules on using fuel for road transport in the UK for which duty had not been paid? This was what made using waste veg oil as diesel illegal up until recently (when they relaxed the rules on that particular source.)
