One down, a few to go.

I, like I think everyone (Chaytor included) was expecting a more lenient sentence than that.

Smashing, super great!

I honestly thought the whole expenses thing would, as far as possible, get swept quietly under the carpet. I am pleased thast, so far, justice appears to be served.
I remember the Plaid Cymru MP last year (on QT) saying that there were going to be convictions and gaol sentences (or a good indication of sentences anyway I think...)

What about ALL THE OTHER troughers from Brown down?

Why is Udin not checking into Holloway round about now along with Barbara Follett, Margaret Moran and the appalling Jacqui Smith?

What about Duck House Man?

Can't help thinking this fakir has been made a sacrificial lamb.

The system stinks.
The duck house claim was never paid out, the office rejected it according to the BBC News today. They never tire of mentioning it though...
OK. Delete Duck House Man. Replace with Moat Cleaning Man (Douglas Hogg). There's plenty of examples to go round.

Douglas Hurd's expenses were agreed with the fees office, he didn't falsify anything or commit any offense, just another example of a crazy system rather than of fraud by an individual.

So, three barbarians are being thrown to the lions... and we are happy??

It looks like at least 400 of them were falsely claiming expenses. These people are the bds who have made it illegal for me to treat my hard working staff to a decent Christmas party unless they pay tax on the costs. I cannot give perks that are worth more than £75 before the staff are liable for tax.

The same people who made these draconian laws seem to think that they can have £1000's without paying any tax.

The fact that only three of them are likely to go to prison makes me want to vomit.

Exactly - this dude falsified documents to claim expenses. This is fraud. Claiming for a duck house, moat cleaner etc. may be taking the piss but not breaking the law. I can't believe some people are still defending him.

article said:
Chaytor had claimed £12,925 between 2005 and 2006 for renting a flat in Regency Street, Westminster, producing a tenancy agreement purporting to show that he was paying £1,175 a month in rent to the landlord, Sarah Elizabeth Rastrick.

But she was his daughter – although her name was disguised by using her middle name as a surname – and the flat was owned by Chaytor and his wife, who had already paid off the mortgage.

I think he should maybe should only be in the slammer for 9 months...

...as long as he's chained up in a small room and whipped for 3 hours a day to make the f@cker pay.

No need to get some dude in a gimp mask to rip his @rsehole to shreds. Whipping would be enough.

He will only be in for that long. For crimes other than murder criminals get an automatic 50% reduction do they not? IIRC Labour brought that in in 2003

It was pretty obvious they'd panic and try to escape jail once the first one started getting poled by Bubba.

I wonder how long before the others decide they want to take advantage of the early guilty plea discount?

Duck House man, never actually claimed for the Duck House. It was just on an invoice with other things.

Minor details.

I am quite staggered that from reading that it would appear that:

1. He was re-elected as an independent MP by his constituents after being booted out of the Labour party for this.

2. He can apparently get up to a 12 month jail sentence and keep his seat!!! How the hell are his constituents supposed to get any sort of representation from him whilst banged up?

My attention is drawn to the cases of Lord Hanningfield and former M.P. Margaret Moran. Lord Hanningfield (Paul White) allegedly claimed overnight allowances, but he was driven home by car on those occasions that he has claimed for. Should be interesting this case.
Moran, alleged 20k spent on a house up North which was her second home?
