What other 'noteworthy' ones are you alluding to SE?
when you say 'noteworthy' nothing as largescale as this

anything which will be affected by the games or be visited by the tourists the games attracts is being pushed for an april/may 2012 completion date

Cheers...I thought I'd missed another big bit of eye-candy being hurried along for completion.

What's the estimated completion date?
may 2012, although it could be subject to delay
"could" laugh
regardless, it will be complete from the outside at least by May 2012 wink sorting out the fittings inside etc may perhaps take a bit longer than expected...

Is the Shard supposed to have a top level restaurant or is that another building - can't remember whether it is the Shard or the Helter Skelter or something like that...

I don't know if I've said this before but apart from being the tallest building in Europe for a short while this is also Europes 1st Supertall building (300m+).

Thats a pretty big feather in London's cap!

The Mercury tower in Moscow will be 380m tall, 70m taller than the Shard. Its in construction now but is some way behind the Shard.

Here's the finished look:

...and here's where they are on 12th September 2010:

The Okhta center in St Petersburg, Russia has also been given final clearance to proceed with construction and is 403m tall.

There are quite a few others in the pipeline as well from various parts of Europe (but mainly Russia) that are also taller than the Shard. There's one in Paris but I believe its bedeviled by financial problems so isn't happening for at least another year.

It seems the whole of Europe is getting "tall building envy"...

AFAIK concrete can't be poured below a certain temp, they're still constructing the insitu frame so unless they're doing external works it looks like their programme of works will temporarily halt

I was there a few months ago and the Tour First refurb looks pretty impressive. Think that'll be taller than the Total tower, although not has high on the sky line, as it "starts" lower down, if that makes sense? There does seem to be a rush of big stuff going up all of a sudden.

Shard will be ready in time, trust me I know. Its the 44 floor tower at 150 high St Stratford that the pressure will be on seeing as it hasnt started to rise yet!

We are "ashamed" of new developments/big construction unless it has a green element to it. It seems they don't want to publicise for fear of criticism by luddites.
