So about some black peoples use of it?
if the group of people who are suppose to be offended by a word, use that word regularly then surely the banning of that word for a separate group is racist? what do you want one language for blacks and one for whites?

that said its all about context as said.

A word is just a sound made by the mouth, a movement of air. If you're offended by a word, it's probably the result of bad upbringing.

If people were taught at an early age not to react to words in such a way, they wouldn't be offended, therefore; blame the parents.
have never understood why people are offended by words

What a crock of st.

You're basically saying everyone should be near psychopathic in their response to words, human beings prime method of communication, as if their completely abstract, they're not. You can use words out of context but some words have become more than there context, they reach out of the bucket of context and have meaning and purpose which transcends context,

Morgan is getting (quite rightly) roasted on Twitter over this. Judging by some of the comments this could be quite an expensive story for the Mirror.

You would have no problem being called a paedophile then, and for context, by say people in the street, regularly?

Sticks and stones may break his bones, but words will never hurt him, especially if they have no context.

Allegedly

that has context though, if someone was just shouting 'pedophile' clearly aimed at no one then why would anyone be offended

Can't see why you would use it in any context tbh.

OED definition:

NOUN

• offensive
A contemptuous term for a black person.
So when people of african descent use it in reference to each other, they're trying to offend?

FFS, even the OED is getting it wrong.

Right on man...

Because it couldn't be you that is getting it wrong could it?

No siree... but don't get offended because it's all just words, there is nothing to offend on the internet, it's all just words and pictures...

It can be used in a derogatory manner; reckon the majority of its use is in anything but that style. So yes, the OED has effectively got it wrong.

Any word can be used in a derogatory manner, you great big potato head, and in 99% of cases context is everything, but some words such as this carry a weight of cultural baggage which puts them into a bracket of being taboo regardless of context, thankfully most people recognise this.

If you genuinely feel that the dictionary is wrong and you are right there are other context beating words which describe what you are and they aren't starchy, tuberous crop from the perennial nightshade Solanum tuberosum.
