apparently less stabby than last year.
Still dangerous ....
Only in as much as crossing the road is dangerous.Still dangerous ....
I grew up around the area, if you’re scared of carnival or think it’s dangerous to attend then I’d steer clear of any other place masses of people attend...just to be sure. Asda can be terrifying.

How many people at carnival are then?

They play much better music at my local Asda. I grew up around the area, if you’re scared of carnival or think it’s dangerous to attend then I’d steer clear of any other place masses of people attend...just to be sure. Asda can be terrifying.

Apparently the Met have ordered their officers not to dance this year and also put a ban on any recoveries of knives not to be put out on their social media.
I'd love to know the rationale behind those decisions.egor110 said:

Nothing says friendly community event like a Section 60 and knife arches though.

I went to 3 carnivals, when I was single, and always came away feeling that it was on balance relatively safe, good consensual fun with the odd group beating here and there as per kicking out time in most city centres. That said the last time I went I saw a stabbing, right on the main parade as part of a big brawl which was happening behind a float, and was involved in a scuffle which broke out in a crush under a bridge.
I balanced that last visit against the times I hadn't seen much violence a few years later when I was in a relationship with a girl who seemed like she'd enjoy going so suggested it.
The response I got was one of horror at the thought of going. She'd been once, with girl friends, and said the amount of unwanted grabbing, groping, thrusting and general harrassment had actually changed the way she looked at a lot of everyday life. She seemed genuinely traumatised and told me that she had panic attacks when in confined spaces where men were present, such as tube trains, for a long time afterwards.
Speaking to female friends who'd also been gave similar responses, all of them said there's no way they'd go without a group of men with them and even then they'd have to be wary.
That made me reflect on the times I'd been and looking back things like the woman giving head to 1 guy in a doorway while another guy watched out which made me uncomfortable at the time took on a whole new level of significance and I have to say I couldn't go again.
How many people attending the NHC actually live there? I think of the area as not very diverse population wise. High earning, predominately white, middle class types.
I've always wondered why it doesn't decamp to an area where the visitors and exhibitors wouldn't need to travel as far.
Ironically it's always on the same weekend as SW4 festival (Clapham Common) yet that event rarely features on the news.

Some of the posts on here really are pathetic.

Everything is fine, nothing to see here.....
Our force has banned weapon seizures being put on social media. Personally I don't agree with it, seeing the police doing stop and search and taking knives off the street is exactly what I want to see happening. It might also act as a deterrent to any would be knife carrying scum but apparently not.
Its what the general public want as well, unfortunately, common sense and social media, combined with weak leadership, never gets the right outcome,Our force has banned weapon seizures being put on social media. I think you need to have some experience of the area, event and population before making such silly statements.I've always wondered why it doesn't decamp to an area where the visitors and exhibitors wouldn't need to travel as far.

SW4 festival has a capacity of 20,000 NHC sees 2.5 million give or take. In 2015, SW4 festival had 20 odd drug arrests, NHC yesterday about 41, by the media reports. And with that, another episode of the culture wars draws to a close.Gassing Station | News, Politics & Economics | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
