Correct. I'm no big DM fan but on this occasion they are spot-on.

The coverage is still pretty inane. If I hear another "It's so AMAZING" or "It's like UNBELIEVABLE" out of another Zed List Celeb I'll throw my pencil case at the computer.

(I've only put it on in the background so I can see the flypast - if it happens).

I liked seeing the gun carriages leaving the barracks. The horsies looked terrific.

They're at it again, Jake Humphrey and Fearne Cotton gabbing on to someone called Angela (who she)?
Totally the wrong choice of presenters.

I don't think the Daily Wail would ever miss an opportunity to have a go at the BBC.
Not just the DM, google it, the criticism is extremely widespread.
The Telegraph, The Sun and some people on Twitter. About what you'd expect.

Watched a bit on ITV today, they had David Starkey commenting in between the inane Z list day telly folk. Quite refreshing in this current era for someone to add some knowledge and interest to what you were viewing. I suppose he's a bit too right wing and plain speaking for the folk at the bbc to invite, shame their coverage could have done with it.

An article written by a family friend, which i think makes all the salient points.

He rightly points out Sky were vacuous in their commentary, however that equally applied to the Beeb commentary on this occasion.
As I said in my comment earlier today, it extended into todays coverage some what too, the only gem I found was David Starkey amongst an inane ITV team.
Is the issue that to do this kind of event you have to adopt the five P's but a pseudo radio presenter attitude, something some of the greats would have cut their teeth on, and not rely on the hollywood smiles and quips of the current crop of celebs.

As far as I know the boat is still in the family and could very well have been part of the pageant. Now, wouldn't that have been ironic if an ex-BBC royal occasion commentator's boat was in the pageant and none of the modern royal occasion presenters were aware of that?
His boat was L'Orage which was part of the flotilla.
See the latter part of the post you have quoted.
Ah, I started quoting then took a phone call, didn't notice your addition!

But Sky = private sector and BBC = public sector, which is all that matters for some people.

Ouch hehe
I will place my cards on the table before proceeding... I'm a sort of republican, I cannot stand our present Monarchy, viewing them a bunch of euro-mongrels cobbled together in an effort to halt the increasingly prevalent inbred cretinism overtaking them in the 1800s.

I'd rather like a real English monarchy.

As to the flotilla... it was destined to be an event in a 'still' photograph than a televised event, the old paintings showed the flotilla to be perfect for that medium, a flotilla is fun to be in, but is a non-event after catching sight of it for more than a minute or so (about as long as the previous paintings of similar events hold your attention, you would be hard pushed to stare at one of those for a few ours) one wave is pretty much identical to any other.

The reason for a flotilla in the past was that was the only way to get the monarch seen by the maximum number of proles (us) to see someone who wasn't covered in mud, st and gristle.

The modern equivalent is TV and the flotilla was and will always be a throw-back to past.

Further proof that no-one in the royal hangers-on (the excruciating parade of the mediocre toadies with stipends to protect) has the sense, or rather the nerve, to point out the utterly bleedin' obvious.

Yet another 'jubilee' with the complete absence of jubilation in this household, haven't watched the TV at all for a few days now due to the constant stream of vomitous platitudes that accompanies every 'royal' occasion these days.

Freedom for Tooting everybody!

While the criticism may be valid from some people to read this in the daily mail really is a case of the pot calling the kettle black.

I didn't realise there was a thread dedicated to the woeful coverage from the BBC. I agree with many others here, the coverage by the BBC was filled up with Z list celebs and irritating presenters.

A very poor show indeed, I hope they do a better job when the cover the Olympics.

I'd like to hope so too, but somehow I doubt it, due to the total lack of professionalism now rampant in the BBC. It's more like a propaganda arm of the new socialists under bLIAR..... pitiful that even the ITV can do it better without even really trying.

Normally BBC sports coverage is without peer - so I remain optimistic about the olympics (although can we PLEASE have less Claire Balding).

You forget that she is almost the ultimate presenter for the BBC in that she is a.) gay & b.) a woman. Now neither of those is a bad thing at all in itself but at the BBC she fits ideally into the "inclusive" agenda that seeps through the whole organisation.

If she was in a wheelchair as well, she would be the only person on the BBC.
