CSIRO, the Australian Science research centre, is closing down its climate research programme because "the science is settled", so no more research is needed.
This is hilarious. 350 jobs to go, apparently.

I wonder how long before they tell us that the science is not settled?

Superb!
Snips from the Jo Nova article said:
Scientists are tying themselves in knots to explain why it’s appalling that there is a loss of safe, low turnover jobs to study something that is “proven”.
Professor Penny Sackett – a former Australian Chief Scientist who now works for the Climate Change Institute at ANU:
“The big question now, which underlies all climate adaptation work, is ‘How is the climate changing?’”
So we don’t know how the climate is changing? So Penny, when did you mention that all the predictions of floods and droughts and terrible storms were uncertain?
Prof Will Steffen suddenly admits “we” don’t know the basic operation of the climate system.
The science is settled, jobs disappear, whoa the science isn't settled after all. Priceless. They could always set up a degree programme in troughing.Professor Penny Sackett – a former Australian Chief Scientist who now works for the Climate Change Institute at ANU:

Hoisted by their own petard!
For years, they have been screaming that 'The Science is Settled'. The logical conclusion, if that being the case, is that they are no longer needed and hard earned tax payers money can be channelled to better use!
Brilliant!
best news i have heard in a while. maybe they can get a job at those desalination plants they built to cope with all the droughts they were going to have . . . oh wait For years, they have been screaming that 'The Science is Settled'. The logical conclusion, if that being the case, is that they are no longer needed and hard earned tax payers money can be channelled to better use!

Yes do I remember a year or so ago the RHS were telling us we won't have lawns and we should be looking at dry Gardens
and cactus instead !!!

Thanks to their leader the UEA CRU was on board

Despite benefiting from bodge after bodge after bodge (copyright UEA CRU and thanks for reading me Harry) while requiring adjustment after adjustment after adjustment, there's really no such thing as The Pause despite believer scientist papers published to explain it away, and carbon dioxide really is the thermostat that controls the planet's temperature. It must be, the rocket scientists at NASA said so.
http://www.giss.nasa.gov/research/briefs/lacis_01/
Just as rising levels of carbon dioxide have controlled the planet's temperature over the past ~19 years by keeping it steady with no significant rise...outside of spreadsheet type changes. It all makes perfect sense.

Hooray! Hundreds of people are losing their jobs! Woo!
I would normally agree, especially as these people are from the scientific community that has given us so many advancements, but these people have not advanced society , in fact they intent to take us back to the dark ages, so no real loss to society only a gain.durbster said:

remember that science you were talking about ? if we are in agreement it should be based on observations vs the hypothesis i think it would do you well to read this. testimony to the house committee on science ,space and technology from dr john christy on the 2nd of february.in any other branch of science this would be the end of the hypothesis. https://science.house.gov/sites/republicans.scienc...
i particularly enjoy how he puts to bed the nonsense claims from mears regarding the veracity of satellite measurements of the atmosphere vs those of land based thermometers . the chart of lower troposphere measured temperatures (radiosondes and satellite) and the output of climate models for the same time period shows even greater divergence from each other than the land based measurements vs model output.
considering the very region of the atmosphere that is supposed to be affected the most according to the hypothesis is seeing little change , just how do you maintain your position ?

But after adjustment, you have a fake 20th century grand-hiatus, warming-flat-warming, instead of warming-cooling-warming.
It's total fraud.

Not necessarily. As I recall the statement from the management said that many may be able to transfer their skills to the new projects related to adaptation and mitigation that they are predicting will be required based on their assumption that the warming projections are likely to come to pass.
So, as with all jobs, especially those killed off for somewhat unproven reasons and exported to other parts of the world where our "leaders" think we won't notice, the incumbents will be pushed into adapting their skills and taking on new challenges. Except for admin staff who will, presumably, just carry on doing admin.
The press release did mention that there were some thought that the skills of some people might not be transferable to that brave new world. No doubt they will be happier heading off to new challenges - which is in any case in the nature of the world of academia and scientific research anyway and very much part of the career path in these non-tenured times.
I would doubt that CSIRO would be keen on Empire reduction. I would not be at all surprised if the new projects required many more people to execute them "successfully" than the original research and, moreover, it may be easier to attract funding for something that claims to be of practical benefit and with, perhaps, some measurable ROI (made up or otherwise) that might reinforce the attraction of project funding proposals.
The senior management will surely have a business to run and bonuses to create and thus will be taking a pragmatic view of the direction they should adopt as a business strategy.
