Nic Cage, is that a consideration of a good or bad actor?
I'm an actor. If anyone gets violent on set/stage the odds are good they'd be gone.
LOL not so much, but he is a "star," the point I was making was the actor who stropped was not a "star" I was not passing judgment on his actoring ability smile

Dropped from 6m to 3m, 3m is still a lot for BBC2 though.
It's always been a popular show and always will be. People have got a bit too carried away with the Clarkson stuff imo.
Old Top Gear spawned 2 shows. 5th Gear which retained the old format and presenters, and New Top Gear only retained the name and Clarkson.

5th Gear has continued to shed viewers by the bucket load, and is now on the history channel. Top Gear went on to becoming the worlds most successful "factual" show with 350 million viewers worldwide.
I'm going to postpone passing judgement until I've actually seen a season of the 'new' Top Gear. None of us can predict the future. smile

You have to look at the figures in context, though. The BBC's overall viewing figures are not the same, you need to compare it to the rest of the Beeb's output.

In May 2001, the BBC's most viewed show was Eastenders, with 17.09 million viewers. Top Gear had 2.53 million viewers, and was the 15th most popular programme on BBC2. It was beaten by;

1 GARDENERS WORLD (FRI 2032) 4.16
2 HAVE I/NEWS FOR YOU (SUN 2231) 4.01
3 WORLD CHAMP SNOOKER (SUN 2001) 3.87
4 MALCOLM IN/MIDDLE (FRI/SAT) 3.62
5 SIMPSONS (FRI 1822) 3.43
6 WORLD CHAMP SNOOKER (SAT 2100) 3.42
7 WORLD CHAMP SNOOKER (SUN 1520) 3.34
8 NEVER MIND/BUZZCOCKS (MON/SAT) 3.33
9 SIMPSONS (FRI 1800) 3.19
10 TALKING LANDSCAPES (FRI 2003) 3.11
11 MOTOR CYCLING (SUN 1715) 3.05
12 SIMPSONS (MON 1802) 2.87
13 OLYMPIC DREAMS (SUN 1500) 2.59
14 TOTP2 (WED/SAT) 2.57
15 TOP GEAR (THU 2031) 2.53

Compare it to January this year, and the BBC's biggest hit was Call The Midwife with 10.49 million viewers while Top Gear was the most watched programme on BBC2 with 6.41 million. It wasn't being eclipsed by snooker and Gardener's World!

Those are just UK figures. Include the rest of the world and I think Top Gear would have the highest number of viewers of the progs mentioned above.

Yes, was just in the context of UK viewing figures for old Top Gear - it got about half new TG's figures at a time when the BBC's figures were much higher in general.

Indeed, or, Apple are rumoured to have been making bigger moves with Apple TV recently. They need some quality content on there.
Absolutely agree. The Apple TV has huge potential which it doesn't fulfill. Imagine how many they would sell if they bought the rights to TG! Pin money for Apple to do it.....let's live and hope.
Apple and TG? Hahahahahahaha. Sorry, but thats unlikely. Apple are typically about being politically correct and not wanting to offend anyone. Clarksons humour isn't compatible with an Apple production.
Sadly, this is true.

I put a few quid on Clarkson setting up his own production company (with some investors) making the programs himself and them selling them round the world.

His "Brand" is at an all time high and very marketable, plus he wouldn't have any constraints regarding what he produced.

You realise, SJS, that we could enter into an eternal posting dialogue. So, I'm stepping away from this now. For both our sakes.

To be fair May dropped a clanger and called it tgl too!

Just got back in, if anything the show was massively improved without the bbc editing. Really enjoyed it and they spent the entire night dropping massive hints about whats next.

What kind of odds did you get, it seems like a very obscure bet to make. Did you do it on paddy power? hehe

I'm a big TG fan and without spoiling it for others I won't go into detail but out of an hour and a half too much was watching a film on a screen, and I didn't think the car shows were anything special - I think the venue was too small. Reruns of old pieces that I could probably watch on Dave and I agreed with a guy in the audience who was shouting "boring" and "get on with it" at Hammond hehe

Just before it started I said to the gf I wonder if they'll mention what happened at the BBC? What I should've said is I wonder if they'll mention EVERY 10 MINUTES what happened at the BBC!

What was TG was the music choices which were good.

As the shows were no doubt planned before all the BBC crap happened and have had to be changed, I suppose their heart isn't in it?

You see, that pretty much summed up whats gone with TG for a lot of people. Most were happy when cocking about but the bit where they brought the supercars and started talking about them people were heckling. Crazy. I enjoyed it tbh. The video pieces weren't great but were almost certainly reshot in a hurry and were only there as a filler piece while the next act was set up, not much else they can do.

Quite interesting that (If I am reading it right?). The Patagonia Special got just only 2 million veiwers yet the next episode got 6 million!
